Tap Turn

Hi folks... I've searched around on these forums and haven't found anything, and so I figured I'd post. After test driving an FR-S last weekend and immediately signing papers to buy one, I came on here looking for solutions to two ridiculously minor gripes I had with it. I'll worry about the second gripe later on since it's even less of a thing than this one.

What I want: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...light=tap+turn

I don't know really if there's an official name for that feature, but it's the thing where the signal light goes 3 times automatically when you tap the bar. The two cars I'm currently driving (trading one in, selling the other) both do this, and I'm so used to it that I'd pay a bit to get it back. I wouldn't mind forking out ~$100 for something like this, but figuring this out myself is way over my head.

Has anyone tried doing anything like this with their car?

tl;dr - I want to make my car signal light go 3 times automatically with a tap. Help!

Definitely interested in this also, so used to it in my other cars

Yeah, had this on my Ford Transit Connect. It doesn't seem like a big feature but, once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.

Wished Subaru had included it on these cars. I have it on my GTI and as stated above...it becomes second nature to use it.

Now I'm making lane changes and such looking as if I'm a dufus with my signal...giving one blink at that.

That's what kept happening when I test drove the thing. I felt like an idiot, making quarter-length signal ticks that other drivers probably couldn't even see. I couldn't get used to it. I mean, I'm sure I could after a bit, but it's so intuitive once you have it, I just want to add it back in.

Sounds like there is some interest here so I'll definitely keep on top of this and keep the thread updated.

Ugh I miss that part of my GTI horribly!

If the BRZ / FRS uses the 8 pin denso style flasher module, add it to the list of cars that can use this new version of tap turn.
...
The installation instructions are dead simple: find the ticking noise of your existing flasher, unplug it, plug this one in place of it.
Can anybody check this? If not, we'll wait til I get my FR-S, whenever that will be.

Three flashes? Wow, that's far too short in my opinion. I have the signal on until the lane change is done. You folks must be trusting of other drives, assuming they actually pay attention! :)

It does appear to be an 8-pin flasher unit (D61 in the Electronics manual).

+1. I specifically remember getting docked points for disengaging my turn signal too early while changing lanes.

thorlius 07-17-2012 05:52 PM

With this guy's thing you can set 0 (off), 3, 4, or 5 flashes, and it'll have cancelling.

Personally, I find 3 flashes is the perfect length to pace your lane change to be smooth but not annoyingly slow.

I never trust anyone else or assume anyone else is paying attention on the road, but that's a whole different story. The only time this should be an issue is on a 3+ lane road.

Yeah, i need this. Still stuck on how my S4 did it so it's just habit now and i only get half a blink if i don't remember to click it all the way.

Update: Guy has confirmed it should work based on the electrical diagram cobrabyte posted above. He's also started selling it as of today.

I'll edit the first post as well.

Any info on the install? Is it just a new relay you remove the stock one and add in the modified one?
