SSP A960E Transmission Upgrades

South Side Performance’s history comes with many years of working in the aftermarket industry around the world. SSP is offering a new and exciting performance parts line up for the BRZ/FRS A960E automatic transmission. These components are another line of SSP products that protect vital drive train parts, to support high horsepower BRZ/FRS’s.

The number one problem that we saw with this transmission is the amount of internal heat it generates. Excessive heat has shown premature wear on clutch friction plates, and warping of the steel clutch plates. Our first project was to build a high performance transmission cooling system.

This looks pretty sweet guys! Do you have any pics of it installed? Our fabricator just purchased an FRS with an auto. I will pass this on to him.

How about upgrades for the guys with manual transmissions?

This is awesome news. While I may be a bit away from needing this, it is definitely in plans for down the road

SSP focuses exclusively on DCT transmissions. There are many clutch/flywheel/short shifter upgrades available for the MT.

I currently run SSP clutches in my 450whp EvoX MR (which has a twin-clutch transmission).

SSP is one of the leading manufacturers in twin-clutch specific technology. Just google their results in the Ralliart, EvoX and GTR platforms.

This is a HUGE move forward in the FRS/BRZ community and will allow the AT guys to run some big power.

DSG will be carrying the full SSP line-up for the AT.

About time.

So can we get some details?

What temperatures were the modified cars running in the tranny? How much power were they running? What were they running?!

Lonewolf 11-21-2013 07:50 PM

Finally! Now how about that higher-stall torque converter?

Fabulous - love to see things starting to be released for the AT. Thanks SSP!! :thanks::happyanim:

I don't need this yet, but when I get ready to make more power I will be calling.

Here are a few pictures of how the cooler is positioned in the vehicle. Technical data will be available shortly.

I placed this thread info in the AT thread!

These clutch plates below came out of a BRZ with around 3000 miles on it. As you can see the primary clutch plates are burned up. This BRZ was outfitted with a turbo charger. You can see what the high heat and added horsepower is doing to this transmission.

What kind of power will the transmission with cooler hold?

A transmission cooler has nothing to do with power...more power generates higher temps if that's what you mean. On that note:

The SSP coolers are able to keep temperatures down in race applications on very high hp EvoX/GTR's. I'd imagine they will be just as efficient for cooling in this application.
