Two Weeks - Rear Ended

Just got my car two weeks ago (not first owner) and someone already drove into the back of my car. What pisses me off is we were both stopped and waiting for the traffic light when his 'foot slipped' and accelerated into me.

It sounded really loud but doesn't look too bad. A dent across the bumper and the covers for the towing thing popped off. Just saw the paint flaking and rusting, just going to leave it until the panelbeater assesses tomorrow morning.

The other guy has no insurance but I have already lodged a claim with mine.

What are some things I should look out for?

Well, now @Ratez , you are having a time of it with your car ......:(

Maybe your photography ain't so good or my old eyes are bad, but, I'm not seeing any damage.....??

As far as the tow cap popping off, maybe it will just pop back on .... ??

You and the "panelbeater" must be good friends by now.

Maybe with a better picture, the damage would become clear .. ??

I know. Just as I finally stopped fretting over it. My photography isn't too good and the damage isn't too bad.

Its dented in but I can't find a proper angle to take.

Different panelbeater this time!

Check to see if your backup camera still works. Maybe the lens were damaged? That's the only thing I can think of..

Okay will do! I would've settled for cash but the guy just told me he doesn't have insurance then didn't answer my phone call so I had to lodge a claim through mine.

If it was hit that lightly there's nothing to "look out for".

It's a simple bumper replace or repair, which I guess you've already decided to do since you said you've filed a claim.

I got rear ended the other day. I was stopped at a traffic light and all of a sudden, BOOM. My rear view mirror was full of a gold object. The traffic was pretty heavy and I was in the center lane so it took awhile to get pulled over to the side of the road. I really didn't expect the perpetrator to pull over but she did. She was driving a giant Toyota Sequoia. Got out to inspect the damage and......... Nothing. Not even a scratch. On either vehicle. People bitch about the crappy paint on our cars. But not me.

The bar inside the bumper is bent in and the black plastic part of the bumper scruffed. He will try to get bumper and the bar replaced.

Fingers crossed, if the other person denies liability then there will be a lengthly process.

hmmmm.........hidden damage....... :(

In this country, most of the time, if a person runs into the back of your car, they are liable.

Oh, BTW, what are those two plugs in the rear bumper of your car .. ??

Anyone .. ??

(my 2013 FR-S doesn't have them)

Also, you got lucky. Mine was far, far worse, but in the end, it was mostly just a bumper replacement and STILL a fair amount of money.

I am in California. Your state may vary.

My 2014 Monogram was rear-ended at the end of September of last year. I was stopped at a light in Sacramento and the 2008 Volvo stopped behind me. The 2004 Dodge Ram coming up behind him, however, didn't and shoved the Volvo into me. This was a 3 insurance company incident. Lovely fun. I was Progressive. The Volvo was State Farm. Dodge Ram guy was old, had a horrible memory, and couldn't remember (we found out later he had AAA).

Everything went through my insurance company. Progressive handled repairs, etc. and went after his insurance company. Once AAA admitted fault, I did not have to pay the deductible. Had AAA disputed, I would have had to pay my deductible and be reimbursed.

Here was the damage to my vehicle:

I have a Perrin aftermarket exhaust. It WAS covered (though in my case, the car was purchased used with the aftermarket exhaust already installed - there was no special declaration to my insurance). Also, caveat: my exhaust wasn't damaged, but DID have to be realigned, which the shop took care of.

And if you want to see the estimate? Here.

So, at least in my geographical area, replacing my bumper completely ran $2800.
