New Canbus Translator
Hey guys! Not sure if anyone here knows me or what i do. But i specialise in wiring and programming/canbus. Ive been doing alot of one off can bus adapters for people in the past but ive always though there should be a better universal way in terms of hardware to make it easy on me to do different kinds of swaps. So after a year of reverse engineering the entire canbus network and then messing with the wiring for over a year. I kind of ended up with this project so far. So what do you guys think? some final programming stuff is still needed but the basic functionality is there.
So basic theory of operation is that this board replaces your stock FA20 ECU. The board rewires most signals needed by a standalone ecu to the AC1 plug in your engine bay. So not only does it rewire everything, This also allows you to use the stock relays from the FRS/BRZ chassis. Then has the high current cables going to the AC1 plug. Also can control the two engine fans though both, feeding a fan control cable back into the AC plug or can also be controlled by the board itself. Also, rewires the two canbus signals from the car though the connector. This allows you to mount lets say a LS3 ecu in the engine bay, have this board do the canbus translation and also extends the wires to the bay so all you would need is to splice into the male plug. Thus no modifications are need to the stock wiring. FULL plug and play. Besides canbus translation it also had a two analog inputs. One is for a 12v square wave input (allows RPM from a ECU that does a 12v peak to peak) and also had a input for temp sensor. incase of those who are running older ecus, or ones that are not directly supported. Also, Support for AC!! both manual AND auto AC, can automatically detect either one and operate accordingly. (you must be running the stock AC pressure sensor to run without modification). And lastly Support for push start. This is a very hard thing that most other translators fail to do. Since this system is part canbus but part physical wiring. Thankfully since my board has access to both wires and the canbus it can coordinate with both to operate a car properly. So this is still in progress, But what do you guys think? So far after a year i have it fully plug and play, does analog inputs and also canbus translation if needed. What do you guys think? is there anything specific you guys would be looking for in something like this? http://www.geraldjustprojects.com/wp...4957720629.jpg http://www.geraldjustprojects.com/wp...4957739329.jpg |
Looks pretty similar to what AGT Engineering in Australia is finalizing. Will everything in the vehicle be functional, such as ac(as you've already stated), cruise control, oem throttle pedal, push button start, traction control, gauge cluster, etc?
Which engine swap is this geared towards? I don't recall seeing it being mentioned sorry... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |
where are you getting the bulkhead connector for the firewall? Where does the GM ecu / Standalone ecu sit and plug in? Does it go in the engine bay?
|
Will this have 100% compatibility and full canbus integration with the E40 LS2 pcm? I'm interested if it does.

So im trying to make it as flexible as possible. the hardest part to make compatible would be the Torque request / commands since each car ecu is different, there is different gain patterns for it etc.. but besides that everything else is basically worked out. OH! speaking of gas pedal. I was also working on that too. i read in the voltages from the pedal and translate them over to the right levels for a Example LS3 ecu. @all4spl Im still looking for the OEM manufacturer of the plug. But havent had any luck. The only thing i can see is that iWire sells the plus and pins for 100dlls. oh and @vijay.dy06 i when over to there website and i see they dont sell nothing like that. Nor do i see any post of that in this forum either. So were do they sell it at? Not sure when they did that. |

@geraldjust AGT is still conducting final tests on their swapped BRZ. I think they have 99% functionality on their car to include cruise control and oem throttle pedal. The last thing they are testing is ac iirc. They haven't started selling their translator yet or updated their website, but have been posting updates in the FRS/BRZ LS swap FB pages.

@bcj il contact them to see what it is. I already have a feeling of the manufacturer but im afraid its a restricted part number. |
I understand reusing the factory harness bit, but I wish it wasn't the case since I already ran a stand alone harness through the engine bay. If it could replace the ECU and pin out to the GM ecu I might pick it up to replace my MRS module.
Excellent work btw, wish it available a year ago. |

Well the MRS module is a very nice installation module. and you need to repin the ecu its not too difficult actually. |
Have you done any research on Honda related swaps if the Honda ecu and engines are complex enough to properly work with the brz? I’d be interested I want to do a K swap but the hardest pill to swallow is the motec

Any future support for 2J?

2gr support as that would be my ultimate swap goal.
