Scion FR-S Tuner Challenge Previewed in Video

The Scion Tuner Challenge is back, and this time, the tuners in the competition are bringing their skills to the all-new Scion FR-S. All three were given a stock 2013 Scion FR-S, $15,000, and just 3 months to complete their build.

The finished vehicles will be unveiled on October 31st at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Here is a quick look at the 3 tuners who are competing for this year's grand prize of $10,000!

When will this be available to watch?

Jeff86 10-19-2012 06:25 PM

In for $15,000 budget results. Hopefully there's some serious GO along with the show.

harajukukei 10-20-2012 01:21 PM

with 15k, a twincharger system and fully programmable ECU is feasible. however, knowing what SEMA and scion are all about, the winner will be the one who spends 15k on aero parts, chrome 20" wheels and a GT wing.

*KID* 10-20-2012 01:31 PM

what I would do with 15k.... :(

#87 10-20-2012 01:47 PM

This could be pretty sick, half the budget on FI, tune, and a clutch. The other half on wheels tires and cosmetics.

dis gun b good.jpg

speargunsandracecars 10-20-2012 02:53 PM

Oversized rims, booming sound systems, half-assed forced induction kits, shitty suspension, terrible paint job, GT wing, non aero-dynamic areo parts, and chrome, lots and lots of chrome, or matte, lots and lots of matte....

I think we found our winner!

Seriously, SEMA cars suck. It's like an official 2 Fast 2 Furious convention.

Turbowned 10-20-2012 03:36 PM

I gotta agree with that. If it were "who can build the fastest car to go around X racetrack with $15,000 and a Scion FR-S" I'd be a lot more intrigued. Oh well, hopefully we'll get some inspiration for other facets of the car than just performance.

ZetaVI 10-20-2012 03:40 PM

I'll watch just for the sake of seeing what they'll do the FR-S cause I have some hope but man that was a pretty lame teaser tbh.

SUB-FT86 10-20-2012 09:10 PM

I don't want to be negative about it.

Circuit Motorsports 10-21-2012 12:44 AM

We would love to do this, $15k is a lot of money to upgrade an already good car.

xbladex0 10-21-2012 01:36 AM

Hopefully it's not some riced out crap... and hopefully these are "real" tuners i've never head of these people before in my life..

Turbowned 10-21-2012 11:06 AM

Well I already know what I'm gonna do with the first $15k when I get my BRZ, but it wouldn't be anything to win SEMA recognition, it would just look classy and sexy, and perform better than stock.

fitcious 10-22-2012 12:38 AM

I would use that money to locate a LFA owner and ask to rent the LFA to be in the show and say the FRS transformed into a $300k supercar.

DuMa 10-22-2012 01:43 PM

the contest doesnt make sense. i could only upgrade the car with 5k of parts and pocket the 10k even if i dont win the 10k grand prize?

jadewbj 10-22-2012 01:59 PM

We did the first one they did of this back in the day with an XA. It was a ton of fun. You get the 15k in cash and can use any sponsors you can find so don't expect the tally of stuff to stop at 15k. We went way over 15k.

They make you submit receipts to show you spent the money so no pocketing it.

Unfortunately our contest was judged by "Hot Import Nights" judges so the car that won was a widebody beast with tons of bling and heavy ass fiberglass stereo.

We went with a "time attack" style car. We gutted it, turbo'd it and used as much rare JDM parts as possible. We through volks and PMU brakes and some ARC stuff. We even made the stereo "quick release" so it could be pulled out in a flash. No credit for quality they went with bling.

Thanks. We had a blast doing it. It was in fact a dream come true. I had someone else pay me and all my friends to build a car. I just wish I could find a way to make it my profession.

Why don't you you open your own tune shop? Do all cars, don't just stop at the JDM cars. It can work, you just gotta show you know your shit and that you can get your cars to perform.

Trust me I have thought about it. I just don't have the dough to get it going.

I know how you feel, I've been have very heavy thoughts about opening a rack track for the public but the money to do it, is insane.

ggpaul 10-23-2012 02:57 AM

I'm definitely supporting Daniel Song (the Asian guy). I've known him for years now. He used to own this car

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21...s/build_27.jpg

Owned multiple cars in the past, along with a Lamborghini Gallardo. Now he drives a GTR as his daily, and a 5 series. I wish him the very best!

Don't forget the -15 degree camber. Can't win anything at SEMA if you're below that. Hellflush bro.

UPDATE!

Found this on ScionRacing FB page.

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...40683234_n.jpg

Baby blue - I don't really like the side exit exhausts, but I like the grill and fog light area. Pretty much stock other than the front lip, color and wheels. Don't really see where the $10k went to...? :iono:

Tan - I like the color and the LED fog light housing. Nice hood scoop and CF mirrors.

Black - I like the wide body, hood and headlights! Spoiler's alright...

Can't wait to see the results! :bellyroll:

Wow! Great looking cars, all of them. I especially like the black one though. Nothing like a badass purpose-built race car.
