Manual Trans./Diff. Fluid Change.?.

i have a 2015 BRZ, i bought new last Aug. and it has about 9k on it.
Should i change the trans & diff. fluid with Motul 300 that i bought.?.

Sure why not? You have it, may as well use it.

JozhGoober 07-06-2015 10:50 AM

Why would you buy the Motul 300 unless you were going to use it?

I really think you should lay off whatever you were smoking before working on your car.

Obviously he is going to use it lol. I'm guessing he just wanted to know if 9k miles is the time to change it.

I change my fluids more often that I should. I don't even bother following the maintenance schedule.

Prob depends on how you drive and shifting. Have 2015 BRZ manual and changed at 7k. Significant impact on shifting smoothness. Had some metal shavings on magnetic drain plug for differential fluid, but not like others I have seen, that waited until 25-30k to swap fluids. Fluids smelled as bad as warned so be well ventilated.

Just did the diff today and holy hell does the factory stuff stink.

Dumped mine out at 5K and it was still reddish and had only a little bit of gunk on the drain plug. Doing the trans on my next day off so we'll see what we find there.

When are you supposed to change trans and diff fluids?

On a street driven car 30k interval for trans/diffy fluid is a good number to work off of if you are using a full synthetic like Motul Gear 300. On our Project BRZ and Spec86 Cup race car we generally will change the fluids at the beginning of track season on the Spec86 Cup car and for the Project BRZ Street/Track car we change it at the beginning and end of the track season.

The Motul Gear 300 has served us well over the years with smooth engagement and not having any issues in our transmissions. We've used it in 100s of BRZ/FRS, some of them hitting nearly 100K miles at this point.

We also offer (4) Liters (enough for Trans and Diffy) for $85 shipped if anyone is in need of it. http://store.azpparts.com/fluids/motul-gear-300-75w90/

I changed mine earlier on to rid of the break in stuff and any metal shaving. Could be stupid but I feel better. Used motul 300 as well, then redline after a clutch install. I prefer the redline. If I had to do it again id use own stuff and call it a day, specially if you're going for short intervals.
