Valve springs: GSC vs Supertech

I'm putting together the last pieces for my built FA20 but I'm stuck on two options for valve springs, GSC beehives (GSC-5056) or Supertech 74lb dual springs (SPRK-1002-BRZ). Im shooting for 18-25 psi with 10:1 pistons. Any help is appreciated.

I've been hearing about GSC in the tuning world longer than Supertech. I don't know that either will have a benefit over the other. Who wouldn't want a beehive?

Supertech has been around for a while. I've mostly seen them used on Honda's, I don't think you have anything to worry about if you decide to use them. I would go with whatever fits your budget.

I'm doing the recall would it be worth it to put any of these higher performance springs
in? Im NA but may go FI later on. If I stay NA is there any benefit?

If you're not performing the recall personally, they will not use aftermarket springs. The recall work is to replace 1 part number with another, not to just change the spring arbitrarily

I am getting the GSC 5756 springs installed in a week. I will let you know

My springs failed although my car was outside recall. I don't think it is FI but the service recommended something better than stock springs for FI. Since I have voided warranty long ago with installing FI, I decided not to get stock spring installed again. And, since my car is only boosted 9 psi (JRSC), GSC 5756 seemed most suitable.

GSC 5756 is working ok for now.

GSC all day, the beehive spring is a far superior design.

I was feeling uneasy with pushing the engine in the beginning. Since last week weather is warmer and I am feeling more confident about the engine. The GSC 5756 springs made a big difference in power. Engine is revving up much more eagerly. Idle sound also changed quite a bit which, I think, is normal with different springs.

i'm noticing the same.. i still haven t revved over 5000 yet but it "feels" much solid how it revs , but i think the bit heavier forged rods i put, contribute too.. also the noise of valvetrain at idle is a bit different, I confirm

I thought about replacing the short block with a built one while having the springs installed but ... cost and and my decision to stay at this boost level, I didn't. How much was the additional cost to replace the rods, if you don't mind telling?

tomm.brz 01-27-2020 03:02 PM

i threw a rod so for me was a mandatory thing
my mechanic doesn t count hours for this kind of job, i replaced oem short block, installed rods in it, new head gaskets, arp head studs and gsc springs and the whole rebuild costed me around 1500€ (1700$ more or less) of labor

I threw the rod while at 4000 rpm and less than 0.5bar of boost, but I guess the racing fuel and hugely high ignition timing were what destroyed it
