Rant: Dealer is being lame.

Rant ahead.

My car got broken into via the passenger window.
Sent it to the dealership to get it replaced, because I have bad experiences with third party shops around town.

Advisor calls me:
Quote:

Dealer contractor says window motor is busted because the replacement window only comes down.
My reaction:
Quote:

Why is a third party doing the window replacement? I asked for a OE part.
Did someone even try to do the window regulator reset?
Can you have a tech walk thru the FSM procedure for it and call me back?
Techstream says the regulator needs to be retaught.

(Side rant: 700$ for a monogram rear seat cover... :bonk: )

To be perfectly frank I would rather the dealer sent the car to an actual window place anyway. Window repairs require a special skill set that most dealer techs don't have. They just don't do enough window repairs to learn them.

Where else to share my car related drama but with you guys :P

True. Doing it through the dealer was "smart" though in case any warranty issues come up with the repair. IDK, many ways to look at it, but you should be getting factory glass I would hope.

I guess I should count my blessings, the thief didn't even damage the door skin and stole about 3 fiddy in loose change.

(Most) Dealerships don't do window or body work. Those get outsourced to a place they trust.

They broke into your car via the window to steal $3.50 in change?

People break in and steal nothing all the time. Not like they knew what was in there before they broke in. I just make sure there is nothing to take and leave the damned thing unlocked. Once every few years I come out and find things messed up but nothing got broke in the process.

They emptied out everything, glovebox, cupholders.
The only thing missing was the change.
They left the keys, lock nut key, access cards, usb sticks, spare fuses and even the canadian tire cashback bills that were in the glovebox on the floor.

Funny tho, they didn't bother with the landrover that was parked behind me.

That happened when my 4Runner was broken into. I had just cleaned it out and removed the sound system to sell the car, so the interior was spotless. And the very next morning after I removed everything I was missing a quarter panel window. Assholes.

I read the post as the 3rd party shop is charging 700$ to replace a window and I almost ded. How much is the actual cost + labor?

Hey, my OEM window screeches when wet and seems to rattle an awful not when I shut the door. No way a shop can do worse than the factory.

I'd be happy with whatever.
