Now the question is ...is it enough to warrant me ridding my current gt4?

From a 3.8 to a 4.0, the same one in the current 2020 992 without the turbos bored from 3.0 to 4.0 tuned to 420 ps. Up 40 From previous Gen. sigh

Yes, you must upgrade. And sell me your current GT4 for a highly discounted price :)

Jokes aside, is there something your current GT4 doesn't do that the new one might? Another 30-40 HP could probably be attained with some well placed mods.

Not too much physically. They said track times shaved some seconds overall but it gained quite a bit of weight.

In terms of value, you can throw that word out the window. As a Porsche enthusiast and tech whore, I want the updated infotainment and subtle body changes from the 718 models.

Assuming I can sell my 16 GT4 with 13 k miles for around mid 90’s, it’d still cost about 30k plus when all said and done. That’s a big pill to swallow.

No- I wouldn’t upgrade. Not enough of a difference to warrant it imo.

This coming from a guy that owned a voodoo gt4. Only upgrade to make would be to a GT3 (manual if you prefer) as the engine is phenomenal. I jumped into an 991.2 3RS and it’s worth the price of entry, despite it being steep. The new 4.0 from the GT Motorsport guys is gold.

I would expect the pricing on earlier GT4's to come down a bit now. Glad I sold my GT4 when I did.

I wouldn't sell a 981.1 GT4 for a 981.2 GT4. Especially if the large weight gain is true.

Seems like a very minor performance gain, if any.

Especially if it is a '16 GT4 with 13k miles. If it was really used, then it would make more sense.

Its all games played by car companies to appeal to people's ego. Merc's been doing it with their C63 and C63S and C63 Black. making high performance version of high performance cars with more bhp you can never use is just ridiculous. The only reason why you upgrade is so you feel like you are one up on the your neighbor. I do things because I like to, not because I have to be one up over the next guy.

GT4 pricing is just stupid. It's a tarted up Boxster with an old engine for 911 prices. If all you do is track the car, get a purpose-built track car like a Spec Racer Ford or a street car fully built with cage, HANS, fire, etc. If you mostly daily and track 10-20 days a year, get a 911 Carerra T. Hell, if I tracked 10 days a year every year, I'd still get a daily and a purpose-built track car. I saw a guy at the track once. He had a modern FWD Civic that had been in a spec Honda sponsored racing series that had gone defunct. He was happy as a clam, fast as a rocket, and safe.

Now if they can fix the gearing issue.

What Porsche needs to build: a legit small, lightweight, simple sports car. FT86-weight would be OK, lighter = better of course.

What Porsche does not need to build: another 3300+ lb. ego-stroking supercar...

Porsche seems to be oblivious to the buyer fatigue that dealers are seeing.

"Collectors" have been going crazy. Got to make hay while the sun is shining.

Could be the last hurrah for Porsche and other super car manufacturers. Gen Y/Z are not interested in cars. They are not in a hurry to get their drivers license and do not find super cars appealing. Uber is what they want. Boomers with money who want to relive their youth is what is fuelling Porsche sales, especially the vintage ones.
