Is this normal?

I noticed when taking off my charge pipe that the turbo oil inlet line has burned through this pipe. Is this normal should it be getting this hot?

Probably abraded it rather than burned it.
Metal braided lines are very abrasive so its always best to insulate them where there is contact or possible contact with something nearby. |
Agreed, but it is hard to tell. Is the pipe wrapped with heat reflective tape or is that just some type of duct tape? It looks like it wore through the tape and the metal from friction. It looks like it melted because of the impression from the braided band, but that is just micro vibrations creating that effect.
On a separate note, the oil line will get very, very hot, but not hot enough to melt metal. If it did then I would imagine it would melt before melting something else. |
Yes that is normal chafe mark. You need to secure you lines better to keep this from happening.

I don`t like the path of the oil feed line. ie Right over the hottest part of the turbo. A more direct path may fix the rubbing and avoid getting cooked.
