WARNING! TOYOTA (TMCA) is watching! Be careful what you post online!

Hey guys.

I've just found out some information about Toyota and their warranty files. I've been told by someone inside the Toyota business, that Toyota will flag your car if they've seen it at a track day, on the street and heavily modified, online youtube videos of it on a track, etc. Pretty much, if you've posted something online about your car being modified in some way, or on a track, or driven in a way "the car was not designed for", TMCA will flag your car and possibly void part, or all of your warranty.

I am trying to confirm this with TMCA at the moment, but for now, be warned.

Lovely... But wasn't this car designed for track days, why would they say "driven in a way that the car was not designed for." Clearly doesn't make sense, but of course, on other forums, I've seen some manufacturers online as well, Chevy is another big one that I've noticed.

all i can say about this is.... derrr!!!

why do you think owners for years and years and years request that their number plate be obscured when people post pictures...

although it would have to be pretty major warranty work (ie it needs to go all the way up to TMCA for approval rather than through your local dealer, for them to be bothered.)

Eg your motor/gearbox blows.

Also tracking your car to my knowledge... doesnt void warranty.

This has been a myth for years. Unless they are writing your vin down i wouldnt worry.

just its a good practice to always blur your plates on the forum, and cover anything identifiable at the track..

not just ebcause of warranty, but one day you might cut off the wrong guy in traffic and he might want to track you down.

dont make it easy for them

or say you hit a porsche owned by a very angry person at a trackday.. you dont want thim knowing everything about you.

doxxing is very easy these days. dont make it easier for them.

Not sure how they are going to win that one considering all the commericals show them drifting and aggressively driving the car

davey90 10-16-2012 07:04 PM

didn't the designer of this car say "it's a tuner's car"? so mods is a high chance to be made to this car by owners.

Yeah figured that at our 2nd meet at Olympic park when some random woman from tmca rocked up in a demo gt and said she heard we were meeting up from the forum posts....

RWD-boxer 10-16-2012 07:06 PM

Jokes on them my car is still slow

fuddbutter 10-16-2012 07:14 PM

It's Toyota, what do you expect :P

one good reason i am glad i went with Subi.. they are used to people buying their cars and working the crap out of them and tracking them.
You drive into the service dept at Subi docklands and there is a big sign on some doors "Dyno room"

Before track day here in NZ I checked with my dealer. He checked it out and said provided I drive it on the track as intended then OK.

As it was designed for track days he said provided it wasn't anything stupid like over revving intentionally or driving the car beyond its capabilities the warranty would still be ok.

Still trying to source some insurance if get nudged or nudge someone else but hard to find cover for a daily driver that is also used on the track occasionally.

SMOKETREES 10-16-2012 07:46 PM

BS.... Tracking a car will not void warranty at all! Maybe your insurance wont cover shit if you do f... up. But if you dont have mods that will void warranty out of common sense then people are good and shouldnt worry
