Why did you get a BRZ?

Figured I'd ask, and might as well add to this, what else were you looking at?

I already got a Ram as mentioned, and all that's left for my Audi is K04-R and upgraded Center and Rear Diff, though since I don't need a sedan anymore, might fix it and then sell it for a down payment.

Was thinking of a Jeep, but already got a 4x4, even if I use it for Work and never owned a coupe, while I don't necessarily need to speed, just want a fun little toy I'll notice the difference once modding (And never owned a manual rwd car before)

Only reason I got this pos was of a good deal. And kind of promised myself if Toyota ever made a rwd sports car I'll buy one.

Other cars I was looking at was a base Camero V6, Audi S5, WRX, Forester, BMW 330.

Had I knew the full retard fan boy following this pos platform has I would never have bought it. But that's my personal opinion, blah blah blah blah.

It's almost as good as my Turbo MR2 but not really.

It’s always been my dream to get gapped by minivans and other sports cars.

Ok..seriously, I just wanted one. I loved the design and how lightweight it was... my only regret is not buying used.

First thing I’ll say is a lot of these cars are beat on and then traded in. The powerband practically encourages you to beat on it (156 lb ft of torque at 6000 rpm)...when you buy used, you can almost guarantee the car has been hooned somewhat. That said, you can’t deny the savings. I’ve seen 2017 BRZ PP locally going for 21-23k used vs. 29k + new.

If you’ve test driven an 86, are fine with the power/powerband, and buying new won’t set you back too badly, go ahead and buy new. Personally, if I could go back, I would pick up a 2014-2016 model and supercharge it.

I remember test driving one ages ago when they were Scions, my friends don't know stick :lol: So they always bring me along and the dealer there was cool, told us to have fun

Only under 5 seconds to 60 car I ever "owned" was my Dads Boxster S w/PDK, so use to slower cars, though I definitely had fun driving it.

Between my family and friends, sure I can bring someone to help me get some $$$ off, and since I bought a Ram from Pinebelt, get $1000 off the next vehicle anyway.

I got the brz because it looks and handles, where the genesis coupe i was dead set on, or the eclipse i had before only looked like they handled, but went flaccid the moment they went into a turn.

And it had heated seats, and looked better than those crummy fr-s'!

My ex had a 4th gen Eclipse, so I know where that stories going.

Shame thought, they were beastly in the 90s, then got ruined badly

In retrospect, I see that I have been heading towards this car for a long time...I enjoyed a couple of F-bodies, a 2004 GTO then a C5 FRC. I then trended toward some lighter cars (bunch of Hondas: Integra GSR, RSX, TSX TL, Prelude). Wanting to try a turbo, I bought a Mazdaspeed3 which led to getting a Mazdaspeed Miata. Once there, I fully committed to lightweight RWD cars. The BRZ only made perfect sense. It's nearly the only car that feels fantastic to drive just going in a straight line. It has a great driver's position, pedal and shifter placement, a great view across the hood. I love the handling (the PP is more comfortable than the suspension in my FR-S). Once you get into some turns, the car takes on a whole new level of fun. It is intuitively easy to drive at the limit, it never surprises me. The Corvette is the only car I feel similarly about.

Why did I choose my car 7 years ago... Simple; it was the best looking new car that I could justify the overall cost of ownership.

I can only give one reason? This is the most fun you can have in a car.

Or can I list them?
- Quick (in the corners; I'm tired of the hp war)
- Great steering feel
- Good MT feel
- Great looks
- Surprisingly practical
- Surprisingly efficient
- No major functional or design concerns even after 7 years of ownership
- I can trade cars with friends who have much more expensive cars than me
- It's cheap enough I don't have to worry about it in the parking lot (yes I've been struck with a shopping cart even though I always park in the back; life happens)
- World Rally Blue

The car is largely the same now as it was back when it was first released.

Its gotten more refined over the years, with the most significant changes happening in 2017 (facelift, 5 more hp + gearing change in manual models, interior trim material changes). The hp/gearing aren't hugely noticeable unless you are driving the pre facelift and post facelift models back to back.

So overall the driving experience doesn't change.
So you can save a few bucks and go used (risk getting a car that was shitbagged/modded/abused), or buy new with a more refined car.

personally I like having a more refined ride, so i'd go with a new one, or at least a 17+

Why did I buy a BRZ? Because my wife had one of these 20 years ago and I was looking for a similar experience.

I know, her's was AWD Turbo and mine is NA RWD. But, just sitting in a BRZ gives me the feeling I was looking for. I fit it! Everything is where I need it to be. I will address the lack of power issue later.
As to new or used I went new to take advantage of the .5% interest offered.
(Actually, this is my second BRZ. The first one I got at .9% but never took deliver. Long story)
