22GR/BRZ Oil Temps
Hey,
Just wondering what's the range of oil temps people are seeing? Normal street driving temps are 195-210 depending on load. When I was at the track I was experiencing temps as high as 235, maybe 240. 87 degrees ambient out. Oil temp would quickly dropped once I reduced load. This a normal range? |
Normal. You hit 260, it's time to think about a remote oil cooler.

The highest I have seen so far at Road Atlanta is the very end of 2 in 270.
Rough calculation: 1 square = (340 - 120) / 74 = 2.97 degrees. I am 47 squares in so 120 + 47*2.97 = 260 degrees. Running Motul 300V 5w30 and will be switching to 5w40 in the future. |
235 wouldn’t be any concern. I’m debating a oil cooler for sure though.
At Sebring in 98* ambient, I hit 268 in 3 laps. Firm in 95* ambient I hit 253 in 7 laps. |
Thanks for the input.
There's no way to get ambient intake temp readings right? |

Or you can look at your ambient temperature readout on the dash (or your weather report) |

FWIW I always see temps of 270F-275F at the track with my '17, regardless of ambient temps. No oil cooler and not planning on one for my usage, which is 95% street with ~10-12 track days per year (consisting of 3-4x ~15-minute sessions per day). I run 5w30 synthetic. Currently at 70k miles and 48 track days.
Oil in the car now still looks remarkably "fresh" after ~2500 miles and 6 track days on this fill. Also, this is the first car I've ever dailied or tracked that seems to use NO oil whatsoever between changes. Even with the 6 track days thrown in it's still a bit above the "full" mark as it was when I checked it just after last oil change. Kind of amazing... |

How often did you change the first couple oils? |

I thought with new models having integrated oil cooler (Forester OEM like) Temps should be more lower
