My 86 Keyring

Finished off my keyring today (I am a Jeweller (or Jeweler depending on who is reading)) and I am really happy with how it turned out.

Not sure how Toyota would feel if i choose to sell them but that's a worry for another day.

I made it in 925 Sterling silver.

Would love to hear your input, critisism or praise :P

Sorry for Pics being so big... i hate that

Loose the 925 on the back, as it has nothing to do with the car, and I'd send you money for one. The front was enough for me, then I saw the rim pattern in the back and was sold. Seriously, pm me if you want to sell one.

Yeah same here, I was looking online for a new keychain today I would definitely buy that.

Thanks, yeah agree with the 925 how it has nothing to do with the car, its normal for jewellers to stamp their metal with its according stamp. plus i didn't want to pop a toyota badge there either.

I only know much it cost me and how long it took me at this point. But i will work out a sell price soon :)
Because they are made in silver they wont be cheap, i thought about mass producing them in a shitty base metal in Taiwan but minimum 1000pc and the quality would go down the drain :(

Lose the 925 (or make it smaller and in a less visible spot) and I'll buy one, and I don't even have an 86.

Think you could keep the price under $30usd?

colHolm 06-06-2012 06:25 AM

that's a nice looking piece. good work!

Unfortunately at $30 i couldn't buy the silver for this job.

I will look into mass producing tomorrow :) there seems to be interest.

i will lose the 925 too (thanks for the tips everyone)

That's what I was afraid of. I'm completely ignorant to the price of jewelry, obviously.

Prava 06-06-2012 06:46 AM

Does it have decent weight to it? I'm quite ignorant in the jewelry department as well lol

Gaiakai 06-06-2012 06:55 AM

That is da shit. I was actually thinking about looking for the piston logo online if anyone had done it, but I'd definitely be interested in buying that one

heheh most guys are, my scales are at work but by memory it should weigh around 30grams/1.05 ounce. The dimensions are:

In inches- diameter 1.28
thickness 0.105

In Millimeters - Diameter 32.5
Thickness 2.8

Unfortunately jewellery is expensive :( My actual cost for the keyring was close to AU$110 excluding 1 hour labour. That being the prototype & master (make a mould and cast over and over) the next ones wouldnt be as expensive, say around $15 + silver $45, so raw material cost at $60. and Labour cost at $60 p.h. makes total cost $120, no profit. Too expensive for a key ring... maybe a porsche keyring :P

I just emailed a dude in Taiwan, hopefully he gets back to me soon with an idea of cost, $30 inc shipping should be plenty for a Taiwan keyring. I will let you guys know as it progresses.

Maybe toyota should jump on board and say "Joel, we love your idea! Even though it looks like our badge we will pay you 1 MILLION dollars and all you have to do is let us use this"... maybe not.
