DIY: Making Air Vents Out Of The OEM Fog Light Bezels
 

I purchased the OEM foglight bezels and thought over how I wanted to go about making these vents. The purpose mainly was for my oil cooler on the passenger side, but this could just as easily be used for brake ducts.

First thing I did was trim off the small lip on the inside of the bezel. I wanted to make a flat surface to work with on the inside.

I used a box cutter. It sliced very easily.

I purchased some mesh gutter guard from Lowes. It was 3 bucks for a sheet like this.

Next I cut a square out of the mesh large enough to cover the hole and have some extra around it using some tin snips. The hole is 4 inches across.

Next thing I did was use the small tab on the inside of the fog light bezel as a fixing point. I cut a small hole in the mesh for it. It actually did a lot to keep the mesh from moving around.

Then I molded the mesh to the shape of the inside of the bezel so it sat flat. I also trimmed some of the mesh that was in the way, making sure not to cut off the corners of the square, as that is how I secured it to the inside of the bezel.

I used three large globs of liquid nails at each corner of the mesh. The tab on the inside of the bezel is also still helping stabilize the mesh.

No problem! That mesh works perfectly. Sturdy, painted black, yet moldable and easy to cut and shape. And cheap. Haha.

Where did you buy the oem fog light bezels from, the dealership? The FRS has the T (space invaders) pseudo vents, which are a pain in the ass to cut.

I had my FRS bumper off yesterday while working on my oil cooler and I tried to do this as well with the stock vents. I started with a dremel and various bits but the plastic would just melt and gunk it up. I ended up scuffing the plastic pretty badly using the dremel before switching to a box cutter. I should've started with the knife first :(

You can get the OEM bezels from diode dynamics for 40 bucks. Yeah, i didn't want to have to deal with all the work of cutting those shapes out.

I've been noticing that they have been pushing in a little from the wind. Either i didn't let the liquid nails dry long enough or i should have used another glue of some type.

Anyone have any better ideas than liquid nails ?
