The Gen 2 Exhaust Thread

Let's get a thread started for exhausts on Gen 2's. What fits, what doesn't, and videos of examples.

Here's my car with a 3" resonated Perrin cat back that was a Gen 1 system, direct bolt on with no modifications required.

Any idea if an STI exhaust will become available in the future.

Doubtful an STI exhaust will see the US market.

Love the STI muffler sound, should be able to import from japanparts.com right? AFAIK it doesn't include the mid pipe tough.

Nice! Was this from 2013 or 2017 gen 1 car? Really curious if my Borla from 2017+ car will fit. Will try once I have the car.

Catbacks will fit on all cars. Axle-backs only fit on the date range they were designed for, as 13-16, 17-20, and 22+ all have different midpipe to muffler connections.

Overall it sounds really good. Did you turn of the fake noise? When you floor it, the sound changed too much.

Engine speaker is still on. I don't mind it, compliments the exhaust well.

I believe you and can’t wait to hear the speaker IRL for myself, but man I can hear the comments rolling in.

trippinbillies40 11-15-2021 12:44 PM

Oh totally. It's hilarious that everyone who has NOT actually driven the car HATES the speaker because it's obviously the worst thing EVER. And about 90% of people that have been in the car go "Oh this actually sounds pretty good!". There's a few people that don't like it that have actually heard it, but that's the exception to the norm from what I've seen so far.

Same with the sound tube for the first gens. I kinda like it, but I feel like I'm in a team of two or three :D

That’s a useful info! I guess my Borla axle-back will be for sale soon:)

I think for me it'll be a matter of whether it works in conjunction with the inevitable exhaust drone I'm going to have to make it louder in the cabin or not. My cat-back kills my ears right now. The "noise pipe" in the prior gen was easy enough to remove without affecting the car.
