the energine is the demise of this poor chassis. maybe ill trade in for my first usdm car. oil temps and pressure is a killer on track. At poconos the highest i saw was 35psi at 240deg. with oem oil cooler

It's not just about build quality though. There will be much more of them out there than s2000s. So, pricing on the used market will be more competitive.
Price will also greatly depend on what else hits the market. if Nissan cancels their IDx and Mazda never shows a new RX sports car, the FRS/BRZ/GT86 will continue to be the most popular recent light RWD sports car, and that will keep prices up somewhat. Honestly, I'm kinda surprised they are as high as they are used right now for being on the 3rd model year. I want them to depreciate faster so I can pick one up for < $15k. haha. |
I appreciate the comparison videos, but here's something for your consideration.. The stock gt86 platform on those skinny little prius tires (perish the thought) beat the "super innovative" NSX, NSX-R and the S2000 around the top gear test track, as evaluated by the stig. Now, I know it itsn't the be-all end-all of tracks, but it says a lot about the capability of the platform...

Just to chime in on the point in the video about rust on the 86 versus the s2000, it depends entirely on where the cars spent most of its life, if the s2000 was bought from a location with consistently better weather it will fare a lot better.
I say this having worked on a friends 2004 S2000 a few years ago with him, that spent most of it's life in the UK, and it was rusted so bad he was handing me tools through the hole in the floor. Meanwhile, the ST185 celica I imported from Okinawa in 2010, was coming up on 19 years old and was clean as a whistle underneath. Weather and owner maintenance play a huge part in how long a car lasts. |
