the energine is the demise of this poor chassis. maybe ill trade in for my first usdm car. oil temps and pressure is a killer on track. At poconos the highest i saw was 35psi at 240deg. with oem oil cooler

except they have some reliability issues (popping engines all over the place and never ending recalls ) and the nannies are always in the way (people say in Vette forums) but they're great value for sure..

Thanks again for the great video, loved the first one and loving this one also :)

Things like the ignition switch issues scare me to hell away from GM: http://pando.com/2014/10/18/gms-hit-...al-in-history/

Bugs/Issues aren't that scary. Everyone has issues, it's how long it takes to fix those issues that are scary.

do you really think these cars will be worth $5,000 as the guys says in the video?

Its an exaggeration but 8yr old car like this certainly wont hold the value the S2000 commands thats for sure. Probably a 8k car or around that.

I can see an 8 year old FRS sticking at around US$9000 (Scions deplete very quickly). I would expect an 8 year old BRZ limited to stick at around US$13000. I expect them to be worth more than the average 2006 Miata is now.

Edit: I have no experience in future car pricing, so take my words as you will.

It's not just about build quality though. There will be much more of them out there than s2000s. So, pricing on the used market will be more competitive.

Price will also greatly depend on what else hits the market. if Nissan cancels their IDx and Mazda never shows a new RX sports car, the FRS/BRZ/GT86 will continue to be the most popular recent light RWD sports car, and that will keep prices up somewhat.

Honestly, I'm kinda surprised they are as high as they are used right now for being on the 3rd model year. I want them to depreciate faster so I can pick one up for < $15k. haha.

I appreciate the comparison videos, but here's something for your consideration.. The stock gt86 platform on those skinny little prius tires (perish the thought) beat the "super innovative" NSX, NSX-R and the S2000 around the top gear test track, as evaluated by the stig. Now, I know it itsn't the be-all end-all of tracks, but it says a lot about the capability of the platform...

That, and it helps remind people there's more to cars than the spec sheet and their preconceived notions about the merits of certain suspension layouts.

01:37.4 Honda S2000 (very wet) Series 3, Episode 2
01:33.7 2002 Honda NSX (very wet) Series 1, Episode 6
01:31.6 Honda NSX-R (wet) Series 3, Episode 9
01:31.3 Toyota GT86 (partly wet) Series 19, Episode 3

Time adjustments for track conditions:
HOT Track surface or car performance affected by high temperature or humidity -1 second
Mildly moist (MM) / Damp (D) Track surface slightly damp with some dry patches after light rain or drizzle -2 seconds
Moist (M) Track surface slightly wet due to shower of rain -3 seconds
Wet (W) / Melted snow (MS) Track surface wet due to light rain or melted snow -4 seconds
Very wet (VW) Track surface very wet (with large puddles) due to heavy rain -6 seconds

Even with the time adjustments, the '86 still seems to be winning, at least in this case:iono: (though i suppose its a really close call on the R-model, if you have a spare 80K lying around, though for 80K i imagine whatever 86 you could build would still wallop the -R....)

You're grasping at straws, bud. Nobody cares about times in wet conditions unless you're rallying.

You're comparing a mid-engine car and a front-mid engine car with a short wheelbase vs a regular old FR car with long wheelbase. The GT86 was in much dryer conditions and is inherently more stable/easier to drive in the wet because of its layout and having the longest wheelbase of the bunch. No surprises there.

Just to chime in on the point in the video about rust on the 86 versus the s2000, it depends entirely on where the cars spent most of its life, if the s2000 was bought from a location with consistently better weather it will fare a lot better.

I say this having worked on a friends 2004 S2000 a few years ago with him, that spent most of it's life in the UK, and it was rusted so bad he was handing me tools through the hole in the floor.
Meanwhile, the ST185 celica I imported from Okinawa in 2010, was coming up on 19 years old and was clean as a whistle underneath.
Weather and owner maintenance play a huge part in how long a car lasts.
