Can a regular person drive a real F1 car?

I found it entertaining.
(Maybe that's the most important thing.)

Speaking of which have a look at Daniel Ricciardo's neck.
I think it's larger than my thigh.

Damn you're right. His neck is like disproportionately large.

Me too, thanks, but no, I couldn't drive one either.

The closest I've come is the Adrian Fernandez IndyCar simulator rig at the big motorsports museum nearby. I was excited that they said I was the 17th quickest ever on my first attempt at lapping the virtual Daytona road course but embarrassed that I almost instantly got vertigo and carsick but didn't puke in the car.

Seems like those who know the least about the subject say race drivers aren't athletes. BS, they're among the fittest athletes out there and deal with physical and mental stresses not seen in any other sport I recall.

Here's Daniel's routine, lots of others on Google along with dietary regimens.

I think IndyCar drivers are possibly the fittest of all given the varied types of tracks, heavier cars and no power steering to deal with.

Looking forward to the Australian GP in two weeks!

I wonder if people with smaller heads have a greater advantage in F1? :D

And shorter necks.

Sasquachulator 03-03-2020 11:29 AM

a regular person could probably comfortably drive an F1 car.....

At like 3/10's its capability.

I work in the ER. I don’t see the point of an inflatable C-collar. A rigid collar is suppose to stabilize the neck using the shoulder girdle and mandible/head as anchor points. Most people are already unhappy, so expanding a bladder inside just seems like something that will compromise the airway or circulation and make the patient even more unhappy. If anything, that one looks loose.

Have you seen some of the training they do for their necks?

Probably a good idea for an irregular person not to drive one without some precautions.

I didn't have a chance to play a PC game for a very very long time. Once there was a great game called RFactor; and there was an F1 car in it. Closing the driving assists, it was impossible for me to finish a lap without crashing, even with a G25 steering wheel. I cannot imagine that combined with all the g-force and the fear of being very close to death. I respect those pilots a lot.

The videos were great. Thanks.
