HKS Intake duct.

Do you like cheap/effective/stock-looking parts as much as I do?

Then check out this air intake duct from HKS.

I just ordered one. $215+ sales tax NZD shipped from HKS Japan.

Generally, I've found that I generaly spend anyway from 50% - 100% more than US based guys for parts, because the NZD forex rate is weaker, and often I have to buy things from Japan as no supplier really keeps much stock for 86's in NZ, as the car isn't common enough to justify this.

Based on that, its quite feasible that US based guys will be able to get this for somewhere in the range of $100 - $150 USD :D

No eta yet. They're out of stock. Will post more pics / review when it arrives.

This unit is MUCH better than the other air intake duct currently being discussed. (Disclaimer - my opinion)

It does look like great value. I look forward to pictures and your driving impressions.

Just placed an order for one from Japanparts.

Just kidding, they're backordered until September haha.

Wait a minute... why didn't you just cut yours to look like the HKS and then bond another plastic piece for the same effect?

Because I'm not Mexican.

This is possible but it would be very hard to make as nice a intake as a molded one. Cutting and bonding tends to end up with sharp or rough edges etc.

For anyone in Australia/New Zealand, NST are selling these :)

I would have to see how much horsepower this made before I would label it either cheap or effective.

Don't buy it then.

Since when did $150 become 'not cheap'. :bonk:
I'll review the product, but I won't be doing a before and after dyno run. Spending $300 - $400 of my own money to justify a part that I already have purchased, isn't going to happen.

TBH I couldn't care less whether it gave .5hp or 5hp. I think its a better design that the stock item, which is why I am going to use it.

It looks worth it just to remove the resonators in the factory snorkel.
