Perfect amount of power?

What seems to be the right amount of power for the 86 chassis with a turbo or supercharger. Let us know your setup (type of FI kit, tires, suspension, brakes, usage - daily - track) and what you think of it.

A more subjective question has never been asked.

Opinions tend to be that way, so lets hear them. If the answer was written in the owners manual we wouldn't need a forum.

The perfect amount of power is the maximum amount of power you can make for the money you are willing to spend.

In my opinion, 300-330whp feels perfect for me. Enough to get excited under any circumstance (straight road or cornering) but not so much that it requires extensive modifications to support it.

It depends on what your priorities are. For the street and wanting to feel the push the more the merrier just plan on spending a ton of money to get it right and reliable.

For the track just a good tune and headers and e85 if you can get it and it’s a nicely balanced setup.

You can check out the details of my build here: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140753

Overall, I am extremely happy with where the car is. Havent dyno'd my latest tune but probably around the 320hp mark on e85. With my supporting mods and regular maintenance I feel comfortable pushing this car around as a DD. Its definitely a completely different animal from stock, and every time I drive this car I get a shitting grin from ear to ear.

Only thing I would probably do different is the clutch. DDing a 6 puck ceramic clutch isnt my favorite. I will be looking into a southbend next

1000whp
And use the throttle for the perfect amount of power.

Pretty sure everyone would agree on more power if it was cheap and reliable.

The more, the perfect-er

Lol, sounds like trolling but pretty much true.

Cost and reliability being 100% equal, anyone would be lying if they said id rather have 300whp instead of 400whp.

And since power and reliability can be achieved by spending $$ It really just comes down to how much money are you willing to spend or risk are you willing to take to save money and make power.

Power
Reliability
Price
Choose two.

300whp is the “general” answer only because it’s a decent amount of power that can be fairly reliable and doesn’t break the bank. Its a good bang for buck middle ground. But cost aside I’d rather have unlimited power.

I used to have a Cossy kit that was rated for 280 at the crank. I think that was the perfect amount of power IMO. Though I'm happy with the 176whp I made with my ACE CS400.

I should have ~ 550whp reliable and wanting more.
Its a k24 swap though.
