FRS MT or AT?
Hi guys, I want to buy an frs or brz but i don't know if I should buy it AT or MT. I currently have an AT 2010 Honda Civic, but im very bored with it, its too slow for what I want. I'm in college and i will use the car for daily, doordash and i want to have fun learning to powerslide, drift, donuts etc. Ive always wanted a fun car to drive and it seems i can buy it now. I learned to drive MT but i dont drive one like 2 years ago. I know MT are more fun, but some people also say you can also drift and powerslide with AT so im not sure which one should i choose, I dont want to regret on the choice i will make. Im in Miami Florida so i dont have a lot of twisty roads over here. Another option i was thinking about was buying an infinity G37 or BMW E90 335i. I really appreciate if you can help me!

With your goals get something else.
Get a 350 or 370. Make sure whatever it is it has a LSD preferably a clutch pack or torsen. NOT Viscous. And yes you can slide with an auto but it isn't good. Not enough control of the car. |
As far as AT vs MT. How much traffic will you be in driving like everyone else vs how much time driving spirited and enjoying the car. If the latter is a high % get MT, if the former get AT.

This is horrible advise considering what he wants to do with the car. Great if he's was just getting it as a daily. OP After reading your responses I 110% think you need another car. Something under 10k. If this is your first car and you want to slide/track it you WILL be crashing it at some point. Get the Z call it a day. Or if there are still cheap 240's or 1st/2nd gen miatas do that instead. DO NOT get a FRS/86/BRZ And yes ONLY get a MT. |
There's also the option of getting a E46 330i with the 5 speed if you want a cheaper option. You'd have to weld the rear diff, but you'd do that anyways with the Z. Only down side of those cars is if you don't know how to work on them then they suck to own.
