Did I tune e85 correctly

Read the posts about it, just want an actual person to tell me if i've done it right or not so I can drive in peace. Wish I hit the log record button but don't really know how to use the OFT logging yet.
(was on stage 2+ uel OFT base tune)

Drove until the low fuel light came on, filled up almost immediately. Thought it would take awhile for the LTFT and STFT to change since I filled up right as the light came on and didn't run it down further. Almost as soon as I pulled out of the gas station my STFT went from around -1 to -5 all the way up to +15-20 then was bouncing around, I kept driving around at low speeds (maybe 2-3kms) until the LTFT finally changed and went into positive numbers, when I pulled over to tune the car I think the LTFT and STFT were both around +5- +7, they were still bouncing around abit but not a whole lot.

I tuned it at that stage since my phone was almost dead and I was paranoid the car wouldn't start and i'd be stuck. Loaded up the tune, it's a stage 2 e85 tune from Wayneroms. Drove home (about 7km distance), STFT was anywhere between +5 - 15 and the LTFT was around 0- +1- +5.
My AFR is around 12-14:1 when i'm cruising at 2-3k RPM

I'm thinking I might of done it too early? Just thought something was wrong when my STFT went all the way up to +20- +25. Or am I all good to keep driving around below 3k for a few days and it'll settle.

(On a plus side the guy at the gas station asked if my 86 was a Porche GT3RS which i'll take as a compliment)

Recorded some logs but it won't let me save the .csv file- looking at it though seems like my STFT is stablish at either -2 to -5, 0 or +2 to 4. LTFT was stable between -8 to -3 for the entire 20 mins of logging. AFR was at 12 on 4k RPM (logging ended literally half way though the 2-6k RPM pull)

Just began hearing a cricket sound from the engine bay during idle, don't know if I hear it when driving- is this that fuel pump related issue? and is it caused from the ethanol? I do remember seeing other people have this issue but thought that was caused from normal gas, and ethanol got rid of the chirp.

IE is the cricket sound harmless and just something you come to expect when running e85

I've only driven 20km since tuning to e85 so could this issue fix itself? Definitely not a coincidence that my car begins chirping on the 2nd start up after switching to ethanol

Try exporting the csv file, that is how you save it.

Your fuel trims sound OK seeing you just changed to E85.

I always get the crickets at idle as soon as I change from petrol to E85, definitely for me the E85 breeds crickets. When I change back to 98 Fuel the crickets disappear after a tank or two.

Enjoy the extra grunt from E85 :burnrubber:

Thanks for that, good to hear it's not something to worry about aside from being annoying to hear. And yea already enjoying that extra grunt and the tune probably hasn't even settled fully. See how the wallet copes though with the $70 full tank costs.

For the data log, I did try to export but it wouldn't let me press the save button in an empty folder so not sure what's going on there. The button wasn't greyed out, just didn't do anything when I pressed it

Yeah it can be expensive as you will also chew through your fuel 1/3 faster... extra power always comes with a cost.

It doesn't though, because E85 is way cheaper than 91/93 octane. It ends up coming out a bit better than even if you're on 93.

We both live in Australia, e85 is very expensive for us. $1.50 per L for our best premium unleaded 98 (your equivalent of 93) vs $1.70-1.85 per L for e85. And of course you use more e85 so you’re spending even more on top of that

Costs me about $70 for a full tank of e85 vs $55-60 for premium 98

Back again for another problem query. Noticed twice today that on start up my exhaust did a little pop that I haven’t heard before on the previous days on e85 or entirely of running petrol. 1st pop was on a coldstart but second one wasn’t so what’s going on there?

I believe my tune has modified the start up to eliminate e85 cold start cranking, is that what these little pops are?

Coldstart only revs up to around 1.3k. The pop was the same as a gearshift backfire. Wouldn’t have questioned it had this happened every other cold start up since the e85 switch

I`ve just started running mine on e85. Put a tank through so far. Its more expensive down here. Sure runs good! Your Pop may just be unburnt fuel in your exhaust pipe igniting

I have always loved the irony of E85 in that it actually produces less "power" during combustion but since to won't pre ignite you can crank up the engine to get more power out of it. In the end the engine produces more power because the fuel doesn't want to ignite.

churchx 10-30-2020 07:27 AM

less power per volume of fuel injected (lesser energy density). But as one of bits of E85 tune is not just more aggressive timings, but also to inject more fuel per air volume, not sure it's right to call that it produces less power combusted, just if pitted against fuel volume. And it's not the only similar irony, everything is compromise, diesels due higher compression ratios are able to be more efficient per fuel volume, yet not that more efficient in cars in reality, as offset by heavier weight of engine for stronger construction to allow those higher compression ratios. Government choices in tax and environmental policies/regulations these days affect engine type efficiency more then they technically differ. And government is like casinos, it always win, you have no saying but obey and pay whatever they choose to push on.
