Bouncing Rock Dented My Hood

First of all, anyone who drives a dump truck full of debris on the freeway should be flogged with a large fish.

I was on the 110 North this morning, on my way to work, when a rock bounced out of said dump truck and onto my hood, then off my windshield. The gouge left in my hood is nice and deep, plus a 1-inch deep dent. I have the incident on dash cam and I could go after the company that owns the truck, but even with the evidence I doubt I'd get any satisfaction.

I've asked for quotes from multiple paintless dent places but their responses have been between "we need to take a closer look" or "let your insurance company deal with it."

Just curious if anyone has had to deal with this situation and what the results were?

Thanks

That is NOT a PDR job. Have your insurance company go after the trucking company's insurance.

What @Ultramaroon said. Also, the hood (at least in GEN1) is so lightweight I was told it is almost impossible to repair and get good results. Been told that by two different shops when I asked for a quote for a repaint on mine (it has a slight dip in it that isn't visible unless you stare really hard)

Yeah, it's aluminum and basically takes someone who knows how to work aluminum body panels to fix. I know Ford has a list of "aluminum capable" body repair shops. I think they have to take a special class on it.

The price of a new hood painted is less than my deductible.

Are you interested in vents? Might be a good opportunity to upgrade your look for a lot less money.

Same thing happened to my wife except cracked her windshield. She followed the guy and got his insurance info. His employer told her to stick it. She called our insurance company with his info and got the whole thing covered.

I have about 6 of those from the same cause (at different times) but have learned to forget them. At least until the next time I wash the car.
