4th Annual Texas FT86 day meet/cruise

Here is the event that everyone has been waiting for the 4th Annual Texas FT86 day meet/cruise. The date is soon approaching (August 6 - 8/6) and this year it falls on a Saturday. So mark your calendars and come join in the fun and meet some fellow enthusiasts from around the state.

Much like last year we will follow suit with the local San Antonians and will be running the Three Sisters route which can be found HERE. Communication is key with these cruises. I will be bringing my set of 2 way radios and I ask if anyone else has a set to bring, it would help the group as a whole.

Of course we want as many 86, FR-S and BRZ drivers as possible but anyone can come and have a good time. Last year we had an awesome turn out and we hope this year will be even better. We ask that everyone be courteous and respectful to one another and to whoever we come across. Just make sure to treat everyone how you would like to be treated.

Please mention if you are in and are bring anyone with you. I will need to head count for Bent Rim Grill so they can be prepared for the amount of food and drinks that we will consume.

The planning of small details like sponsors and times for this is still going on and I will keep this thread up to date on any changes and when the times are finalized.

Guidelines/Safety

First and foremost, you're not going to impress anyone being a showoff. No burnouts, donuts, excessive revving, yada yada, you get the idea. Don't be the asshat everyone looks at in disapproval.

Safety is a big concern. Yes this is meant to be a fun drive and will be a spirited run for some. Don't try to push your car beyond it's limits or your own. Goes back to the first rule......DON'T BE A SHOWOFF!! Drivers must be alert and ready to immediately let off and stay in their lane. Watch out for road conditions and adjust driving/speed accordingly. Respect other motorists. Stay alert!!! If bicycles are out...we need to ramp it down so nobody gets killed. This is where the two way radios will come in handy. So if you have one, BRING IT so you can be informed. We want everybody to have fun, but know that you are responsible for your own actions and those actions could affect other people so everyone please be on your A game.

Be warned that on the way to/from Medina on several runs people have gotten tickets. So be cautious in that area. Also the last gas station is in Leakey and that will be the last pit stop to get gas so make sure you have plenty before you leave there. We suggest everyone to fill up their tanks in Bandera before arriving in Medina. This should save us some time in Leakey for sure and when Extreme86 does this he has enough fuel to do the run and it gets him back to San Antonio.

Schedule

The Apple Store (think apple orchard)
14024 State Hwy 16 North, Medina, TX 78055

7:45 – 8:00 AM – Initial meet up point is in front of The Apple Store in Medina, Texas. Please park across the street beginning at the furthest end towards Bandera and back-in your vehicle if possible.

8:15 – 8:30 AM – First Twisted Sisters Run group will begin lining up behind a lead driver parked on the Apple Store side of the road headed towards Ranch Road 337. Group size = 10 to 15 cars. Lead driver will have a short briefing session with drivers in the group and will depart when ready.
After the departure of the first group, subsequent lead drivers will organize groups in the same manner. Groups will be lining up and departing at about 10 – 15 minute intervals or less. Monitor GMRS/FRS radio Channel 5-0 for information pertaining to group sequencing. Team leaders will make the call whether their group will go clockwise or counter clockwise on the run out of Leakey.

1) IMPORTANT – Fuel: Everyone should have enough fuel to drive approx. 135 miles from Medina, TX. 3/4ths of a tank is recommended. Our 86s will be doing a lot of uphill acceleration and consuming more fuel at wide open throttle. Please top off your tank in San Antonio, Kerrville, Boerne or Bandera before arriving in Medina. There will be several scheduled “stops” on the run but, these do not include any filling stations or restrooms. Please use the restroom in Medina before departure.

2) VERY IMPORTANT – Safety: a. No showing off, burnouts, drifting, throwing gravel, etc. Be alert at all times. Stay in your lane. Drivers should not exceed their driving skills limitations or performance capabilities of their vehicle. Keep a safe following distance. Watch out for rocks, debris or areas of loose gravel. Drive at a speed that you feel safe to drive on the roads you are driving on. It is recommended that the vehicle’s traction control features be active and not turned “off”. Use caution at all times. b. There may be slow moving vehicles, bicycles and motorcycles at any time requiring an immediate slow down. Oncoming large motor homes and trucks pulling trailers have been observed on rare occasions and these have the potential to cross over in to the opposite lane if encountered on a narrow curve. Again, be alert and stay in your lane. c. The lead driver may slow down well below the speed limit in order to create a gap if a slow vehicle is observed up ahead. Also, the lead driver may pull over for a few minutes in a safe spot off of the roadway to accomplish the same. Monitor channel 5-0 during the run for information from the lead car. d. If slower vehicles are being passed along the run – please observe the laws pertaining to passing. Do not pass illegally. Do not pass if it is unsafe to do so. e. If bicycle riders are observed on the run – driving speeds will be reduced accordingly. f. Participating in this event is entirely voluntary and participants agree that organizers, lead drivers, group leaders, ft86club.com, sponsors, vendors, etc. bear no liability or responsibility for accident, injury, property damage, etc. g. As always, faster drivers to the front of the group / slower drivers to the rear of the group.

Prior to departure and at anytime during the run, please inform lead driver/team leader if you have any issues.
Notice…cell phone service is very limited past Bandera, TX, and mostly non-existent during the Ranch Road drive north of Leakey. Only AT&T works in Leakey, TX.

Final Destination

After the run we will stop at the Bent Rim Grill in Leakey. 657 Ranch Rd 337 W, Leakey, TX 78873

If you don’t want to do the run you are welcome to meet everyone at the Bent Rim Grill.

To those that are FI or E85 it would be a good idea to bring an extra 5 gallon gas can of the fuel.

Shirts

If you paid I will have the shirts ready for you at the event. Those that ordered and have not paid will of course have to pay to get shirts. Any shirts not claimed at the end of the raffle will be sold to anyone who wants them.
