What are the chances of a test drive prior to purchase?

Had a casual conversation with a buddy at lunch and he mentioned this car wouldn't be available for a test drive for a while since most that arrive are already spoken for. I haven't checked with my local Subie dealer yet but are any of you guys going in for a test drive before purchasing? Did your local dealer mention if that was possible?

It seems the best thing to do would be to get on the list and put a deposit down. I believe most are allowing you to test drive it before you sign the purchase agreement. In other words you can decide NO at the last minute. Is that true?

Yes, when your car arrives for your pre-order you will be allowed to test drive and can say no at the last second.

My dealer said I could test drive it before the final purchase and if I decide to back out after the test drive I would still get my full deposit back.

If you pre ordered you can test drive, otherwise, wait for an unallocated car.

No offense but I don't want you or anyone else testdriving a car I've already "bought". :)

That last part is so good, I just thought it should be restated for the good of the order. To anybody else with questions, I hope it's clear.

My $2,500 down payment is non refundable, if I don't like the car when I drive it ill sell it to you :)

I wouldn't want you driving my car either...obviously ;)

Some dealers have a mule of some kind available but given the demand on this car they don't need to keep one for themselves... i get it. Just trying to get some feedback on how test drives are being given around the country. Thanks guys!

we just have to wait and see!!! but from all the reviews about this car...I think everyone is going to love the first test drive :D

My dealer told me they see two headed for them in the pipeline, including mine. They're guessing the second one is their demo car.

I signed up for the Gillette Stadium FRS first drive on June 9th. That way in case my BRZ isn't here yet at least I can drive something almost identical on a small road course...one month and counting!
Hopefully I'll have 1000 miles on my BRZ by then :)

I'll test drive mine before signing the papers, but I bet I won't be the first person to do so. First BRZ in may mean everyone in the dealership takes it for test drives before calling me to let me know my car arrived. It would be in the dealer's best interest to keep it in the showroom. Either way, I think there's some motive behind holding the car themselves for a week or two. I won't be happy if the car either has a bunch of miles or it's their showroom piece.

You will know with the odometer reading. I had one of my special order vehicles arrive with 6 miles on the odo. Typically if it had more than 15miles i'd be suspicious. From assembly to ship to showroom probably doesn't require >15 miles of driving.

Mind if I ask which Socal dealer you bought yours from?

StarsGarrador 05-04-2012 10:03 AM

I made sure they understood I didn't want anyone else in my car, and he said " well the master tech has to drive it to make sure everything is ok, then I'll take the keys and hide them from everybody" I plan to be there when or before the truck gets there. If they try anything they won't like the way I'll respond to multiple people jumping in and going for a joy ride.
