Redstar Raceway (Delmas) - Open Car Track days

4 Attachment(s)
Hi All,

There's a few threads/discussions relating to RedStar Raceway, so I thought that I will create a consolidated thread for continuity.

I touched base with Redstar to get details,
This is their response via email:

"We are excited to host our first open car track day on the 29th November 2015.

The cost will be R650-00 per driver.

Each session will be approx. +/- 20 min.

A decision about the classes will be made on the day."

I will update this post once I get more information,

In the interim,

When::
EVENT SCHEDULE
http://www.redstarraceway.co.za/

Where:
Red Star Raceway
Groenfontein/Dryden Turn Off
N12 Zonderfout Farm,
Portion 5,
Delmas
2210

GPS Co-ordinates
S 26 04’ 30.9”
E 28 45’ 20.0”

Cost:
R600 per driver

Classes:
TBD on track day

Contact:
management@redstarraceway.co.za
info@redstarraceway.co.za

Why:

One of the best tracks in Gauteng to "learn" and practice on,

Due to the relatively flat, structure/wall free landscape
(Except for the pit walls),
you are able to make mistakes/go off track and not pay the price you would have paid at other race tracks, which have walls.(Which you can crash into:D)

The high volume of corners make it challenging, and build fundamental cornering skills.:burnrubber::burnrubber::burnrubber:

Track Times:

There isn't a formal leaderboard of car times on their website, as this track is historically been used for bike track days,

But in terms of Track times, here are results from the Michelin Cupevent at Redstar Raceway:

Wayne Hay (WRX STI) - 2:07.413 (2016)
Carl Van As (WRX STI) - 2:09.973 (2015)
Our very own @Fish Eagle (Toyota 86 RGM SC) featuring on the Michelin Cup quickest laptime board with 2:16.723 (2016)
Don86 (Toyota 86 RMS N/A + Flexfuel kit) - 2:29.654(2015)
@FT_86_SM_GP (Toyota 86 NA on semi slicks) - 2:23.945 (2016)
@LostSalad(Toyota 86 NA on street tyres) personal best of - 2:26.621 (2016)

Track layout:

Either clockwise or anti-clockwise

I'll definately be there on the 29th :) Can't wait.

I'll make sure that Carl van As knows about it.
He loves Red Star, so he might join us - then you can see him in action.
Apart from having a very quick car, he's a gifted driver, and a hellova nice guy to talk to.
Here's Carl's info taken from another forum (modded STI) :confused0068:
Zwartkops: 1:09.3 / Kyalami: 1:58 / Dyno : 286wkw and 488nm / 400m: 11.7228, 193.346km/h / VKC: 1:52.00

Edit: I got hold of Carl. He probably won't make it - his car is getting some TLC in prep for next season's competitions.
BTW, I've done 2m19.8 since the Michelin Cup, and for sure I'm going to get into the 2m18's on the 29th :burnrubber:

PS: Jacques Stiglet did 2m18.47 in the RGM SC86. Here's his video -

Carl has crazy driving skills, I watched him beat 911 Turbo's on the Go Kart Track at Zwartkops with his STI,

Looking forward to the 29th,

Although its a little more expensive than Zwartkops (R450 vs R600), there's almost twice the amount of track (2km vs 4km) and the facilities at Redstar are really clean and impressive,

That 2m18s lap from RGM Stiglet looks very clean!

Iv been on Redstar as a passenger with you, and the video's do not do justice, the constant intense G forces at corners and late braking is an incredible motoring experience

If you want to see some really quick Red Star action -
This is the winner, Darren Winterboer's video of race 2 at the Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series at Red Star on 01/11/2015.
The car is a full race 335i and his fastest lap was 2m05.663. :respekt:

Preparing my car for next Sunday, and as usual, the engine oil level is perfect, the supercharger oil level is perfect, and the coolant level is perfect.
Still amazed that after 24 track days and a lot of abuse, my car has never used a drop of oil or coolant - ever!! Love it!! :)

Wish I could say the same for tyres and brake pads though :D

BTW, if the track's dry, we should be able to run excellent lap times on Sunday. There's a Historic Tour event at Red Star that Saturday, and most of them run full slicks, so the track should have a good layer of sticky rubber on it. :)

Here's an added incentive to be at Red Star on Sunday...

Gerrit Erasmus (Beam Productions) will be there and taking pics out on track.
His photos are stunning, and it'll only cost you about R250/R300 for all the pics he gets of your car (normally 20-30 pics).
The pics are quite hi-res (about 7-10Mb each), and you can either get them on CD from Gerrit on the day, or via dropbox.

Here's some samples -

Whoop-whoop!!
I've managed to get a chalet at Red Star for Saturday night, so I'm going up on Saturday morning for the Historic Racing.
It's a first time for the Historic Tour at Red Star, and as a bonus the Inex Legends will be racing there too on Saturday.
They're expecting 150 racecars :confused0068: Practice and qualifying on Friday, racing on Saturday.

This will be the biggest cars race meet that Red Star have ever hosted, so it'll be challenging for them.
Hopefully this is the door opening to RSR becoming a mainstream cars racetrack. :)

What time does registration start tomorrow?

It says "track opens at 9.00" not sure if that means doors open or actual track itself
