First internal mods for FR-S!!

My frs is a daily and sometimes I’ll take it for a spin in the hills. I want my car to sound nice and have no torque dip. I’m also planning on running e85.

My budget would be <3k. After doing research it seems I would need tune+headers to fix the dip and an exhaust for a good subie rumble I mean, sound. I’m also thinking that buying used will save a lot too. I’ve seen mixed answers with using an ecutek vs oft for e85, insight would be appreciated.

Is this a good start? Am I forgetting any mods that I should do? Would I need a flexfuel kit for e85? I don’t want to spend extra if I don’t have to.

Thanks guys

Both ECU flashers do the exact same thing.

OFT will allow you to unmarry the Flash so you can sell it.
EcuTek will require the next person to buy another license.

OFT is mainly OTS tunes but does have the option for custom.
ECUTek usually has whoever you bought it from provide a tune.
I believe RaceRom is needed to modify base tunes. (an extra cost)

Most tuners prefer ECUTek.

Unsure if OFT has these.
FFlat Foot Shift
Two-Step Launch Control
Ability to switch between maps on the fly with the cruise control stalk.

As for Flex Fuel.
I would spend the extra money and get the kit. That way if you get a bad batch of gas that isnt properly E85 or if you end up somewhere where there isnt any E85 you wont have problems.

I can only relay experience with OFT.
I've been running the off the shelf stage 2 E85 tune for around 4 years. No issues whatsoever. The car has been thrashed in hillclimbs regularly and is competitive.

Flashing between 98 and E85 is a five minute operation but you do need to run your tank down close to empty first.

If you have a source of E85 that is between 60 and 90% ethanol then OFT is all you need. You do not need flex fuel. (Do a google search for how to fun E85 with no flex fuel on an OFT.)

Worth mentioning that catbacks, axlebacks add almost no power (like low single digits)

Ecutek and e85 kit with a tune is ~1200 from motoeast. Header and exhaust is around another 1k ish depending on what you get. Well under your 3k budget and should give you what you're looking for.

Tomei UEL catless headers and OFT is the direction I went. Though now I sort of am kicking myself for spending the money on OpenFlash when almost all boosted applications will prefer ecutek, which is my next mod.

I think all-in I was under $1200, add your flex fuel kit to that and you're golden.

Other mods I did for drivability were a KN drop-in air filter for a few bucks and a clutch helper spring delete (free, ~20 minutes of your time).
