Does clear tinting a windshield cut heat?
A clear tint is legal here in Florida. The shop tells me it will get me a 50% heat reduction and will not affect vision either day or night. That would be a big help in this climate. Has anyone tried it?

Depends on how much UVA and UVB it actually blocks.

You'll want to get a tint that blocks IR more so than UV to keep heat out...

Right now all I have to go on is the word of the word of the tint guy.

Looks like Llumar AIR 80 BL SR HPR (whew) would be the one you want for max heat rejection, or AIR 90 CL SR HPR for max light transmission with significant heat rejection. |

(*) 3M quotes performance data of their films as installed on 73% tinted glass. Back-calculating the VLT of Crystalline 90, it only reduces VLT on the order of 1%. I don't know whether the Llumar AIR 90 VLT numbers are of the film itself, or include glass. If just the film itself, accounting for glass might reduce VLT below what's legal, but it's probably close enough to not get into trouble. |

Yes have done it on all my cars. Once you do it you will be addicted.

How good is it really? Like on a clear hot summer day how long can it be parked before it's roasting in there? |
With the proper film you can eliminate most of the solar gain. It can make a big difference.
