Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community - FT86CLUB - FS: 2015 Scion FR-S – Firestorm

This is one of the several cars that @Opie and I have rebuilt over the past year or so. This car was acquired as a Dallas, TX freshwater flood vehicle with a hydrolocked engine. The engine threw a rod through the block. We found the previous owner on FB and he confirmed that he was driving it at night and found himself on a flash flooded road. He tried to stop in time but couldn’t and before he could shut the engine off it locked and went BANG. He also confirmed that no water entered the cabin which matches what we found when inspecting the car after it arrived in Florida.

We bought a 2013 WRB BRZ with under 17,000 miles on it and swapped that engine in. We used the 2015 engine harness and coil packs for the swap. We also had to replace the T Bracket because someone (we are assuming the company that towing it) must have yanked on it and bent it, which also damaged the front bumper cover. For all we know though that damage could have existed before hand, we didn’t think to ask the previous owner about that but we could I’m sure.

The car is basically stock but does have Tein Basic coilovers, Niche 18” wheels, brand new 245/35/18 Nankang NS-25 tires, Spec-D taillights, Spec-D (I think) headlights with aftermarket HIDs, tinted front turn signal lenses (might be aftermarket lights), tinted windows, a tinted rear window shade thing, padded knee pads/door pads, some aftermarket guage faces (which I greatly prefer over the stock FR-S ones but that’s personal preference) and a 2013 BRZ axleback. Oh it also had a cool LED reverse light/4th brake light setup that is disconnected. I was going to rewire them better but forgot to do so so that hasn't been done. If I get a chance I'll fix that wiring before sale.. not too hard.

Carfax is available as well, Opie has a copy of it somewhere I’m sure or we can run another one.

The car had some terribly installed LEDs, radio with a cracked screen and broken side skirts on it when it arrived. We removed the LEDs, put in a stock FR-S radio and removed the side skirts, fixing the terrible wiring work along the way.

AC is freshly charged (properly, vacuum pulled first, etc) and is very cold as well. Everything works as expected and I’ve been DD’ing it for a few weeks (well before COVID-19…) to make sure everything works find and that there would be no unexpected issues.. and it’s a LOT more comfortable to drive than my silver BRZ which also makes it the goto car. No rust on the body except for some light surface rusting on the inside of the trunk (see pics). It was dry back there when we got it so assuming it’s been like that for a while but obviously not rusting through or even close. Could even be discolored from rusty crap there – I guess I should have tried to clean it first.

The bad is cosmetic stuff. Drivers seat had a tear on the outside in the vinyl, steering wheel is worn, it’s at least been partially repainted before, we replaced a fender because Opie forgot to torque the wheel. Overall though it’s a solid car and I’ve been enjoying using it.

There are a bunch of pics included here and I will add any specific pics as requested. I will also post a pic of the car with a sign printed on it tonight (Opie took the car to his Subaru dealership to get it freshly aligned and to get the new tires mounted/balanced).
