PTUNING 4-1 Full T304 SS Equal Length Double-Slip Race Header (200+whp 93 pump gas)

Since we've sort of made our home in the Forced Induction section, many of you are probably not aware that we've been developing a header for the FR-S/BRZ/GT86.

We'll be testing this header the first part of next week. Our plan is to do a full dyno tune to extract the most out of the header. This will also include dialing in both intake and exhaust cams to hopefully within 5 degree or less of optimal timing. The idea will be to compare a baseline dynorun on our dyno with that of our fully tuned header. This will give you an idea of what kind of gains to expect from running this header.

For those of you that don't already know, we design, prototype, and dyno test and tune all of our products in-house. I'm personally involved with all the product prototyping and testing using our Dyno Dynamics Lowboy 450 Quad Retarder AWD Chassis Dyno. I've been tuning this platform using ECUTek from the very beginning. NA, supercharged, turbocharged, pump gas, E85 flex-fuel, water methanol injection, etc.

Before we get to the details of the header, let me be the first to say that this header will not fit all budgets. PTUNING likes to build premium quality products. Unfortunately, in order to do so, we often have to take cheap and inexpensive-to-build out of the equation. With that said, this header is designed to compete with the other high end headers on the market.

Details:

- Designed and manufactured in the USA using only the best quality domestic grade materials.

- Custom spec 1/2" thick CNC T304 SS head flanges with back cut gasket face for better exhaust port gasket sealing.

- Custom spec 1/2" thick CNC T304 SS 2-bolt overpipe inlet flange.

- T304 SS v-band near merge collector for possible future upgrades to a full v-band header back exhaust system.

- Runner lengths designed around the offset cylinder 1 and 4 exhaust ports on the FA20 cylinder head. All 4 runners lengths are within 1.5% of each other from the back side of the exhaust valves to the merge collector.

- Rotational firing order into the 4-1 merge collector. Only one of it's kind for the FA20.

- Double-Slip 4-1 merge collector with custom spring tabs to allow for proper heat expansion without the need for flex bellows. Only one of it's kind for the FA20.

- Minimal exhaust runner up sweep at the front of the engine ensures that radiant heat is kept to a minimum. This also makes this header SC friendly.

- Low profile design allows the factory metal under tray to bolt back into place without any modifications or spacers.

- Each mandrel bent exhaust runner is constructed using the fewest number of sections possible. This ensures perfect exhaust flow as well as eliminating the need for extra weld joints.

- All six exhaust port studs are readily accessible to allow for ease of installation as well as the ability to properly torque down each nut.

- O2 sensor bung placement does not require extending the O2 harnesses.

- No CEL codes.

Additional Info:

- Since we cannot put a price here, we'll be creating a post in the vendor for sale section soon. It is also listed on our website.

- These headers will not be available to ship out for about 4-5 weeks, but we are taking pre-orders on them at this time. You can PM us for details.

- Since performance is our sole objective, we will not be producing either a catted or UEL version of this header.

Stock Baseline vs. PTUNING 4-1 Race Header Untuned vs 4-1 Race Header-Back with ECUTek Dyno Tune

These are not unicorn numbers. Here are 27 more dyno-pulls over 196whp to back up our claims.

Looks very nice! I am interested to see the torque curve these produce as the runners are longer than the current trend in EL headers, on this forum anyway.

Will you publish recommended cam timings?

Excellent! Side question are you considering a ceramic coating option with this piece as well once finalized on design and in production?

Holy cow that's an awesome looking header. Can't wait to see dyno results. Can you also do a dyno run on fully stock car except header + tune only?

Great looking bit of kit there. May I ask if heat is a concern regarding that driver side engine mount. That runner looks close.

Cheers

Nice looking piece there PT!

Any more photos to share OFF the block?

@F1point4, I'm assuming that the OEM heat shield SHOULD take care of that potential issue. Since the header is said to be able to be mounted without modifying anything, the heat shield should not only fit, but also protect the engine mount and anything else. I could be wrong though.

Side note: I'm just about to jump on getting the FT86 Speed Factory Catted UEL Header. So any more information on this header as soon as possible would be great.

The heat shield ptuning is talking about is most likely the bottom skid plate, not the OEM header heat shields

in for dynos!

Any plans for a replacement turbo over pipe so that it'll be vbands all the way from header to muffler? :p

G-Man 08-08-2014 11:44 AM

I have been waiting for this! can't wait to see how it performs!

Will you work with OFT/shiv to release OTS maps?

Yes, we'll have no problems supplying our customers with optimum cam timing settings. We'll likely offer ECUTek eTuning too.

Since we're not huge fans of ceramic coating, we'll likely leave the ceramic coating option up to the customer. However, we would have no problems shipping the header directly to the customer's ceramic coating company of choice.

We'll likely offer an optional stainless steel puzzle piece header heat shield system later on down the road.

Assuming the AFR's don't look too wonky during the first dyno pull with the header, we may post those numbers too.
