So about that 699lb weight limit of our car....

How serious is it?

I never noticed it until today, when I was reading the label for tire pressures and saw the warning.

I've definitely exceeded this limit before. Had a four hour road trip up to Binghamton NY with 4 of my friends. So 5 of us total in the car with bags in the trunk. Just our body weight alone was 735lbs (figured it out with them today).

So uhh.. should I avoid doing that? LOL

SuperDave 01-13-2016 01:36 AM

it just means if you exceed that limit, your car won't handle like it was designed.

Hmm. Okay thats not so bad. Had no trouble going 80-100 on the emptier roads upstate. I'll avoid going nuts with that much weight in the future then.

Where do I sign up for this luxury cruise? Pics or GTFO.

I wouldn't sweat it. You didn't break anything except your passengers.

Covered the faces of my friends for privacy LOL.

I'm 205, other front seat was 195. The three in the back only add up to bout 335.

Ultramaroon 01-13-2016 02:23 AM

Seems like the one stuck in the middle would be the least happy. :D

She actually claimed to be very comfy... Very odd.

Halfway through the ride, she did end up stretching her legs out to the front passenger seat and almost laying down though.

But anyway, gonna try to avoid having rides like this in the future. Wasn't comfortable (or safe) for any of us after a while. Never have I ever sat up so straight while driving lol.

Ah, to be so young and free...

That my friend, is amazing that you managed to fit FIVE people in the car. I would imagine that the person in the middle must've been at least uncomfortable at some point.

That's what I thought when I read your post, then I saw the OP posted below yours and suspicion confirmed!

edit: Even still the OP said no one was comfortable...so there you go. Lesson is...treat this car like it's a two seater and you'll be golden.

My grandsons (8 and 13) fit back there and love it. My daughter rode back there for half an hour, got out whining about cramps in her feet, a headache from hitting her head and nausea from the bumps and loud exhaust. Needless to say she will not ride back there again.

In college, I fit 10 drunken pledges into a '77 Honda Civic wagon (two in the front, eight stacked like cordwood in the back) for a Fraternity "initiation" stunt, and drove them 15 miles to relieve themselves on a huge rock outside a rival college's chapter of the same Fraternity.

Agh..the good old days when you didn't get killed (or arrested) doing something stupid on the road.....Sadly also (way) before cellphones so no photographic evidence.

Yeah I can only see kids or very tiny people "enjoying" the ride back there. I'm nearly 6 feet tall and climbed back there to see how bad it is....it was so much worse than I had thought it would be. :(

I have never once sat back there. Maybe I should give it a try.

It certainly is eye opening...at least it was for me.

However I'm very much like you. I never have passengers in my cars. And when I do it's only one person.

PandaSPUR 01-13-2016 04:23 PM

I'm 5'10 and I cant even sit up straight back there or my head hits the window.

Also, I discovered sitting behind the drivers seat is actually better than sitting behind the passenger's seat. Its cause the driver seat can actually go up/down, so theres more foot room x.x

I have no idea what you all are talking about. I've tried to look back there but I can't see anything that looks like a seat, just a little shelf I thought was where the optional wet bar goes. Is it behind the partition in the trunk? Maybe like an old-timey rumble seat? You know, I tried to put a full grocery bag behind my seat once, but I couldn't squeeze it through any of the gaps -- I had to drive home with it in my lap.:bonk:

PS I love Tcoat -- whenever I see his avatar I know there's some fun somewhere.

NARFALICIOUS 01-13-2016 05:28 PM

This is why you gotta do some weight reduction. So you can fit more friends.

Braces 01-13-2016 05:50 PM

The car weighs in around 2800lbs. 5 people weigh approx 700lbs. That is approx. 25% of the total weight of the car. :eyebulge:

I would be scared. Real scared.

I rode in the back once, when MomHawk was test driving the car. I'm 5'7" and it was OK, although I wouldn't want to ride there for more than a short trip.

I've also been trapped back there once when cleaning the back glass and the front seat slid back and locked. Yea, that was fun...
