2016 brz infotaiment system bluetooth lag?
anyone else experience this problem? this whole infotainment system is mediocre at best i think. when i connected to the bluetooth, when i get a text my phone will vibrate first, then the ringtone will sound out a second later. when i text, the text key tone lags as well.
when i use bluetooth audio, it'll show information on the first song, then it stops there and won't sync up with the actual phone. so phone will be playing other songs but the screen will still show the first song. also, is there any possible way i can get more apps into the system? or am i stuck with pandora, weather, and news? thanks! |

Lol you nailed it (at least in the frs side) its just mediocre If you want something better go get a nice aftermarket unit. These cars are not a Lexus so they have to cheap out somewhere to keep them affordable |
Ahh ok was just wondering if there's some sort of improvement for the stock unit other than going after market haha.
|
Is it the FA163US unit from FujitsuTen? They're functional, not great. I disabled the text reading feature immediately because it has a stupid bug that will read out every single text in your history on Android, and every text the car missed while you aren't driving.
They are nice units from a functionality standpoint, I use Bluetooth Streaming and hands-free all the time and it works just fine. But some of the features like texting aren't worth your time. List the head unit and your cell phone models, someone may be able to give you better help. And as always, go through the manual to try to resolve your issues. |
Honestly I only use it for bluetooth and spotify while my phone is mounted, I'm just happy the skip buttons work on the unit. My friends and everyone keep asking why it only shows the first song played and doesn't show current song lol. I don't mind because I know all my music but I guess it annoys passengers if they want to know what song is playing and I have to press the power button on the quickly to glance at the song name. There's a delay on phonecalls as wells. Gets the job done for the most part so I'm not too bothered to change the unit. If all you do is listen to music and use bluetooth then it's okay, though if you do want apps I'd look at another unit. I've seen people post here about aftermarket units and watching youtube videos during traffic lol.

I've never bought a car and thought to my self, wow what a great sound system and it does all that I want!
Bought the BRZ with just the base shity stereo sans touch screen and installed one of these http://www.pioneer.com.au/au/product...50BT/page.html Added speakers, amp and a reversing camera and could not be happier. Takes SD cards so popped a 32GB one in there with music and video's, yes it plays just about any format video file, but I don't use that function myself. Blue tooth syncs flawlessly the moment I start the car and it just keeps playing where I left off (if streaming from the phone). Song metadata streams to the screen correctly and even the siri functions work through blue tooth, if I want to just voice dial contacts. The screen is very responsive and the GUI is nicely designed and layed out. The street directory is awesome. Note the only drawback for Apple Car play is the need to plug your phone in for it to work. Not a feature I bother using to be honest. TL;DR - Buy an aftermarket head unit and call it a day. |
haha yeah im happy im not a big audiophile, so the bluetooth audio works ok for me. just wish it syncs instead of stuck at the first song.
and the system reads text messages??? i think they might've taken it out for the 2016....:( |
You're going to have to play around with the settings. Try having the car initiate the connection, then try having the phone initiate the connection. You can also look up support for your Android phone on a forum like XDA.
More often than not, I find bluetooth problems have more to do with the phone than head units and other devices, and it has more to do with monkeying with the settings and proper configuration. |
thanks! i didn't think of that actually. I use an iphone so i'll see if there's anything i can mess with. thanks for the heads up!

Glad Im not the only one with the issue. I have the same issue with the song and artist not updating after the first song. Mine usually drops off a few seconds then comes back softer and that usually only happens once. Im glad that I don't have to yell when using the phone and that the pause/play and skip functions work. Overall everything works is just not the most speedy thing in the world. Also made a call while playing music and the speakers turned up and practically blew my ear drums out and the call audio didn't come through. I haven't tried to recreate the situation yet. Will edit if I can though.

The new Starlink does have particularly laggy bluetooth, probably nearing a full second. It never shows the correct tracks on Android either.

My '15 FRS had no issue. '16 hyper.blue same issue with Spotify. |
I just recently had issues with my 2016. It connects and shows different songs but I can't use the skip feature. What I have to do is shut off the phone and reconnect. But it starts to act up as soon as I stop the car again. Galaxy Note 3.

I've only had my BRZ for less than a week. I've been looking for a thread on the 2016 HU. I have a Galaxy S5. I can get Pandora to work fine BT, it takes a little bit to find the connection but it's been pretty solid otherwise. Same for the BT connection when I listen to a podcast. The starlink rarely works though, it just tells me there is an error most of the time. My biggest confusion is how the phone works. I've transferred my phone book but sometimes when I get a call it shows the phone number but there is no green pick up the call icon only a hang up one. not sure what's going on there. Has anyone used the voice control? If I press the button nothing happens ever. No voice prompts or anything. My 2010 Legacy worked pretty much without issue and the same with the wife's 2013 Outback. BT in those cars is not bad at all.

The phone is a little wonky for me too. Some numbers will show up as the name and some will just show up as the number. On a few occasions I have picked up but no voice both ways. However, once connected no one has complained about call quality. Overall the system works for listening and calling just wished it was as smooth as the F150 and Focus I've ridden in. |

Well it took a while but I figured out why my voice commands weren't working. In the event someone else has this issue and the off chance they search, this is what worked for me.
This is with a Galaxy S5 (may be the same for other phones I don't know) and the 2016 6.2 head unit. Issue was the voice command would not come on when pressing the voice button (bottom left on head unit) When I say not come on, nothing happened like I didn't even press the button. I will spare you the trial and error it took to figure this out but essentially, I believe because I sent my whole address book, relatively large amount of contacts, from my phone to the head unit, it somehow borked the voice command. I deleted my phone from the head unit's blue tooth and unpaired my phone. This removed my contact list. I re-paired my phone with the head unit and sent only a handful of contacts, maybe 20, over one by one. Took a little while but that seemed to do the trick everything works now with the voice command. To send single address over with the S5. Select contacts, import contacts, then single contact (not exact wording but something like that) on the head unit getting it ready to accept a number, next open the contact you want to send on your phone, at the top right pick share card, select BT for share, select the head unit then send. That will send it over. After it's in go to the next one and so on. Sorry for putting this here not sure where else to put it. Any specific questions I can try to answer |
I've had my 2016 BRZ for almost a month now. I've pretty much given up using the HU for anything outside of FM radio.
Out of Pandora, phone calls, and blue tooth, only one ever works at one time and sometimes none of it works. Twice now, I've tried to use Pandora and it just switches on and off and never connects. I've also experienced max volume "pops" of sound when trying to switch from phone calls to something else. I've disconnected and reconnected my LG smartphone about seven times now. No help. |
So I switched back to an older phone and all my troubles went away.
Guess I need a different phone. |

Does it support other text languages? Will it display Korean/Japanese, or will it just show boxes/blanks for those kr/jp songs? |

I'm still having issues with my HU. I had to go back to my other phone, but I think some of this is unacceptable. The phone I'm using meets every requirement listed in the manual.
Today, I couldn't get anything to connect, so I just hooked up the aux cable. Even that didn't work. Sound was not coming through the phone either, so I don't think it's the aux jack on my phone. Day before yesterday, I received a call and it wouldn't hang up. I had to hang up using the phone, but the HU still showed my call as ongoing. It ran like that for over a minute. Also last week, I received a call on the phone and my car didn't put it through. It paused my music, so it knew I was getting a call, it just didn't tell me. My rear view camera has locked up once. Everything else seems to work only about 60% of the time. I'd rather have a more reliable HU with more limited capability than something that promises the moon but can only deliver a rock. I experience lag and connection issues multiple times on a daily basis with this car. Junk. |
