26.5 mpg wtf

What would cause this car to average 26.5. That's pretty low I would think. This was around 80mph average speed on the freeway. Far as u know it has no mods

jawn 01-07-2016 11:59 AM

LOL. I get 19 MPG.

City?? Don't you mean over populated racetrack with lots of lights and signs and rules to follow??

Summerwolf 01-07-2016 12:04 PM

Probably the 3500 RPM cruising speed. That's not bad mileage for cruising 80 in this car, lol.

^^^ This for sure.

I drive a good mix of city and highway, and I've only been able to score 28 mpg at the best of times....

RichardsFRS 01-07-2016 12:14 PM

OK compared to ya'll I guess it's good.
Thanks

NyC Zn6 01-07-2016 12:14 PM

e85 here i guesstimate around 15 to 18 mpg here lol

FT&6 01-07-2016 12:19 PM

Then you are not driving it properly :slap: mine is an auto too

smg1138 01-07-2016 12:23 PM

Uh, 26.5 is not bad at all. I get about 25 on 93 and 20 on E85.

lol... if getting low mileage is driving it properly then I may as well ditch the FRS and go muscle...

shellslinger 01-07-2016 12:36 PM

Pretty good for 80mph. I average about 23-24mpg with a mix of city and highway.

Tcoat 01-07-2016 12:49 PM

33.6 for me.
That is with 99% highway driving with cruise set at 75. There are trips I don't touch a pedal for almost 2 hours.
I don't get to play in city traffic much.

If I'm not stepping in it or driving fast (not very often) I can average over 30 when on pump gas.

Right now on E85 with a city/highway mix I just averaged 20

At 80mph I come away with 32mpg with wide, heavy 18" 9.5w wheels and tires.

At 70 I average 35mpg, and can get 37mpg if I try hard.

Not sure how people manage low fuel economy on the highway.

Blue-Sensei 01-07-2016 01:11 PM

It's your cruising speed. 80+ is like 24-26mpg. 60-65 is about 34-40mpg. Personally I get about 36-38mpg cruising at ~65mph. Actually get about 1mpg more with the turbo, until you get on it and then it all melts away.

It is the average that kills people. I am sure everybody (except the E85 crowd) would get about the same if just measuring at a constant highway speed and consumption. It is what happens off the highway that knocks hell out of the mileage for some.

Is that like... mythical Canadian gallons? My hat is off to you.

I average about 22.5 but this island is basically 100% city driving.

this. I can't help but think the same people who sometimes complain about mpg(not necessarily this forum, but in general) are the same people who launch their 5k pound trucks/suvs from every stoplight and wonder why they are getting 8mpg. Granted, our car is slow, but theres tons of times I would be what I consider accelerating briskfully, and the lady next to me in the suv/camry/etc passes me lol.

Our cars mpg vary quite a bit depending on driving habits, and its been pretty well documented here on the forums!

LOL Hard to imagine if you are actually from Hawaii but Ontario is 1.5 times the size of Texas and driving for long periods is pretty normal. Two days a week I commute two hours each way to one plant. The rest of the week is forty five minutes each way to two others. I live right beside the highway and the plants are as well so I spend about 5 or 6 minutes in the city each day. All that works out to a very nice average MPG.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm from Vegas actually.

I had hopped on the freeway here one day and just set to cruise at 60 and still wasn't seeing those kinds of numbers though, that's crazy!

Reset your trip computer when just on the highway. I bet you come close if you can maintain a steady speed long enough.

Yea well go 65mph in atl you will get killed lol. This is the same problem I had with my Mustang, I couldn't drive 55, 65, 75. When my wife drives it, she gets way better results and did so in the Stang as well.

But consider our freeways are 75mph in most places

Sighhhhhhh

Guess I'll accept the challenge of trying drive like granny, see what happens

strat61caster 01-07-2016 02:23 PM

I get about 23 mpg on my current commute.

I've gotten as high as 34 mpg on a tank (measured not damn dirty lying dashboard calculated mpg), and as low as the 10 mpg, all in the drive cycle.

Hooray, yus, actually. Cant go as fast in the city, but seeing people stare at my car and scaring jaywalkers back on the sidewalk with a quick rev sure is fun.

80-100 MPH while staying above 5k RPM, thats how. My exhaust drones too freaking much between 3-4k RPM. It has trained me to drive like a loud ass.

helloitsmee 01-07-2016 03:13 PM

When you go over 75 mph your going to lose gas faster. Duh. Over 75 definetly not fuel efficient

I've averaged 29.3 for the 40k miles i've driven my car. a mix of city, highway, auto-x. I will say, the driveway labs rear diffuser helped me get better highway mpg's over 70.

and my car is far from stock.

MisterSheep 01-07-2016 03:42 PM

I was normally getting roughly 30mpgs combined. After I changed my oil to 5w30 it dropped to an average of 27mpgs... I drive a lot of highway with some city as well.

slyphen 01-07-2016 05:05 PM

80mph freeway and u get 26+? and you are complaining? wtf? i'll be lucky if i get 25+ although most of my driving are city or spirited. look at my signature fuel data lol.

My build is below me. Average about 20mpg. But if you bought the car and worry about gas mileage, you bought the wrong car. I'm sure Toyota has a Prius available.

Chee-Hu 01-07-2016 05:49 PM

What caused the crappy MPG is your right foot

Lynxis 01-07-2016 06:04 PM

I drive 100% city driving and average 9.4l/100km or 25mpg.
