Are your windows hard to control

Seems there is an annoying sweet spot to roll the windows down part way. Almost like I have to hit that little bump to control this. As for control of passenger window from drivers side, I can only go all the way down. Drivers window I can hit that little spot and it works fine. Is this a defect or bad design? It's pretty annoying

Ashikabi 12-29-2015 10:01 AM

I have this problem too. Have to try several times to get it where I want it. Usually use the vents anyways to avoid wind noise

PandaSPUR 12-29-2015 10:13 AM

Took me a while to realize and get used to the two-step switch.

If you push or pull all the way down, it automatically opens or closes all the way.

But if you push/pull half way, you can hold it as long as you want until the window is where you want it, let go and its good. going halfway doesnt engage the automatic fully open/close feature.

RichardsFRS 12-29-2015 10:17 AM

Panda thanx cus I haven't tried it that way. Will try that at lunch. So annoying

This bring the question:
"Automatic vs Manual"

Bingo PandaSPUR is 100% correct.

Anyone that's owned Toyotas over the years knows the "two-step switch" feature as it's been used on the driver's door only for years now.

Toyota finally listen to their owners and have been installing this feature on both front door windows on newer model Toyotas.

My windows were somewhat hard to control as I was originally very lenient with them. I have since given them a stern talking to and now they are much more controlled.

2 step feature tho

RichardsFRS 12-29-2015 12:42 PM

Yea panda that worked! Thanks

np :D

I actually read the manual before I got the car (while anxiously waiting for paperwork), but still managed to miss the part about the window. Who would've known a window switch could be so complicated >_> Figured it out myself eventually.

I had a scion before this and I don't recall being that big of a pita. Otherwise Id never heard the end of it from the wife. I didn't get a manual on my used FRS but I got the PDF, just haven't printed it

That's the ticket. There is a wealth of wonders to be found in there.

You have a few options. Take off the weather stripping. Take off the glass. Don't use your car when it rains. Get a different car. That's about it unless you can invent rubber that doesn't squeak when wet

pushrod 12-30-2015 12:08 AM

I knew how to use these switches within one use of them, but the sweet spot for manual scroll is too small. I've had the car nearly two years and I _still_ push too hard on them really often.

Packofcrows 12-30-2015 12:11 AM

^^^ my issue too haha

Speaking to neighbor while I clean interior and roll up all window accidentally. Made me look rude.

I suggest you clean the glass parts that touch the weather striping with alcohol.

Then, apply a silicone substance to the weather stripping that contacts the glass.

I'm pretty sure the manual doesn't have much explanation on this either, by that I mean it's very easy to glance past:

All it really says is to "light push the switch in the opposite direction" which basically means they would like you to use the auto function and stop it where you like

It isn't the rubbers squealing it is the plastic guides inside. The TSB for freezing windows fixed my squeal but I understand it didn't help for others. Since part of the job includes changing the guides and that is a pile of work I suspect some dealers just swap the weather strip and call it good enough.
