Would you again?

Consumer Reports continues it's anti-86 slant with it's most recent publication. According to it's Sports Car Loyalty survey (nobody asked me btw), only 50% of FR-S owners would buy an FR-S again, given the chance. BRZ owners were at 51%. Mustang owners were at the top at around 74%. This seems very low for 86 owners, considering how many happy ones there are on this forum. I'm curious how many members of FT86Club would re-buy or re-lease an 86? If not, what would you get instead?

Well I know for a fact I will not be rebuying as I am never selling mine :iono:

xFury 12-28-2015 06:51 PM

Probably, depending on the what the current model and stuff is at when I'm ready to get another one.

MisterSheep 12-28-2015 06:55 PM

I would buy another, because my girlfriend wants one. I would want another one for tracking. We would have 3 86's!!

When all is down the road. I'd get my offspring an 86. Everyone who's part of my family is getting an 86.

Wheres an oprah meme when you need it?.... lol

mengmoua 12-28-2015 06:59 PM

100% would buy another one. Probably will get another one soon!

cdq85 12-28-2015 06:59 PM

When they release the turbo hybrid AWD version in 2017, I will upgrade. Until then I will just drive mine until it falls apart.

Or was it 2018 for that version? Hmmmm

Who8myrice 12-28-2015 06:59 PM

No, I never buy same car again.

YamahaR86 12-28-2015 07:10 PM

It's a depends for me. The 86 was what really got me into cars in the first place.

Right now I'm looking at the WRX though, need to sit in one/test drive it. Mainly because my nephews and nieces are getting older and I take them out everywhere as the cool uncle.

If I don't like the WRX I'll probably get another updated one.

Ddreder 12-28-2015 07:11 PM

I am probably part of the group that would NOT buy another FRS. At least not a brand new one. The little quirky issues I have with the car and a couple other reasons cause me to think of other cars to buy.

Dont get me wrong though, this car would be very difficult to replace. Being able to hit the touge as hard as i do with my miata with only a change in tires blows my mind. I can think of very few cars even capable of this.

But even with all of the fun ive had I still am searching for my perfect sports car. When I do finally bite the bullet to sell my FRS I will probably end up with something RHD from canada. A Suzuki Cappuccino has been on my list for a long time :D

humfrz 12-28-2015 07:14 PM

If I had it to do all over again, I still would have bought my FR-S.

It has served me well .....:happyanim:

radroach 12-28-2015 07:22 PM

If I had more money I would own several FR-S and BRZ's.

I see it a different way if I had to buy one again, I would only buy one year after the next "update" is be it engine power upgrade and cosmetic upgrade. Also I think by the time that happens, my personal situations will have changed and I could get a manual by that time.

You would not get another FRS because of the quirks issues but would go with one of the very few older RHD cars available? Seems contradictory really. Some of those one off imports are noting but a bundle of quirky issues. (Not a slam just an observation)

ToySub1946 12-28-2015 07:28 PM

I religiously read Consumer Reports, have done so for years.

It took them a long time to figure out that sports car buyers would buy their car again, even if it is a problem car...example: Corvette. Now they're sort of getting the idea of the real world of car lovers.

I'm very happy with my 2015 FRS...bought because it's cheaper than a used Lotus Elise, and way cheaper than a Porsche Cayman. I wanted the most fun to drive, yet affordable car.

I'll gladly trade when they come out with an FRS in British Racing Green.

and from radroach:"If I had more money I would own several FR-S and BRZ's."

My reply to that: I'm considering selling my 2005 Mustang GT, replacing it with an FRS or BRZ in a different color than my current FRS.

Sigh-on-Rice 12-28-2015 07:31 PM

Maybe the FR-S owners who said "No" are thinking of buying BRZ next. If my FR-S gets totaled and I need to buy another car now, I would buy BRZ Limited. :)

An astute observation my good sir :D

There is a reason I sold my old 97 RHD Prelude.. It had big quirky issues (dash going dead randomly while driving was fun) but even with all of its problems I still miss it immensely.

Summerwolf 12-28-2015 07:35 PM

I would buy one with more power again.

As it sits now, i often wonder if I should have bought another z06..... i wanted to do something different but the only thing that would really improve the car is about twice the horsepower.

That is probably more nostalgia then it was a great car. Our memories can mess with us sometimes.

Consumer Reports... LOL

Ditto!

They really can't make up their mind since the last survey placed the cars on the Best Buy list.
I have no idea where their data came from for this survey though.

TruRace 12-28-2015 07:58 PM

I would definitely not buy again. Great car but the quality issues kill it for me. I'm still going to drive it till the wheels fall off though.

FR-Sky 12-28-2015 08:41 PM

This is the only car I will buy from now on,, either BRZ or FRS

Funny thing, I saw two Lotus Elise today and looked up the pricing on them while going home from work. Was considering them but the MSRP on new AND old just kills it for me.

Also saw the "New" Lexus RC200t F-Sport and it's not bad either. The new Mustang's are looking great as well.

Pretty much what's holding me back. The QC issues. I know they gotta keep costs down but the interior still feels cheap to me. The paint and inter panels scratch so easily. Plastic everywhere and the little noises of clicks.

I'm also plagued with the front bumper issue not lining up correctly when you take it off.

I love my car to death, but the little issues at the back of my mind are still there.

PhantomX 12-28-2015 08:50 PM

You should make this into a poll.

Cole 12-28-2015 08:51 PM

Wouldn't buy another FR-S and maybe even another Toyota for one single reason:

My experience with the service department has been HELL. I've been trying to get my TCM issues fixed, but they refuse to do any further work after replacing my ECU, which clearly didn't fix things for me. I'd go to another dealership, but then I'm spending over an hour in driving time and my time=money.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good car for what it is, but, I also don't like driving it as much as I used to, because I'm "dealing" with a problem, rather than just solving it in 20 fucking minutes with TechStream.

My next car will likely be a fast sedan, or maybe a Cayman. But the thing is that I'm at a cross roads of fun vs practicality, and I seem to fall right in the middle every time I seriously evaluate things.

WhiteFRS69 12-28-2015 08:52 PM

to be honest... no

this is a great car, i have alot of fun!
but i get bored of things and want to experience different cars, different power levels, different trims etc etc

weederr33 12-28-2015 08:52 PM

If I could buy one again would I? Well.... I'd like to buy a used corolla for more storage, but yeah, I'd buy another as a secondary/ daily/ weekend car.

Do you want to experience a power level beyond an ascended super saiyan?

Rustyspoon 12-28-2015 10:01 PM

I too would be on the list of not purchasing this car again. And its not becuase i think the car is junk.

I love it, do not get me wrong. But its not going to go through many refreshes like a mustang will. People will buy another mustang because in 5 years it will be a "new" upgraded mustang. The FRS will be much like it sat in 2013, no real reason to go get a 2018 version. The data is highly subjective.

RichardsFRS 12-28-2015 10:02 PM

Probably not. I love the car but i would get a Vette or a 2015 mustang V8 no six no 4 only a V8

Teseo 12-28-2015 10:02 PM

I will sell my frs then buy a brz

TheVoiceOfReason 12-28-2015 10:03 PM

Comparing to the mustang isn't really a good comparison IMHO. Many people who buy mustangs know that is what they want 100% before purchasing. Even if it has issues they may still overlook them because it's a mustang. This car is different being new and not truly having any heritage to fall back on. People don't buy it for exactly the same reasons, and many of its buyers get bored and switch platforms every few years anyway even if they liked it just for something different.

I think If all mustangs were 4 cylinder those repeat buyer numbers would drop too.

RichardsFRS 12-28-2015 10:28 PM

Bah Mustangs get boring too. I loved my stang too but correct the two cars are apples and rocks.

This is true. Not to mention the mustang has several engine choices, 3 now that he ecoboost is here. Therefore, if they start at the V6 they can "get more power" after 1, 5, or 10 years. Our car is more or less cookie cutter (nothing wrong with that).

So, would a Miata be a better comparison? It's similar specs to our car, less power more handling oriented but it's been around for years. The newer refresh model actually looks a bit appealing to me.

damnitBobby 12-28-2015 10:39 PM

People still read consumer reports lol

"Would I buy the FRS again?" No.
"If I could go back in time would I buy the FRS?" Probably not.

Don't get me wrong the car is nice and all. I won't beat the dead horse about the wimpy engine, but I will say the car sounds underwhelming most of the time. From the inside it sounds like a loud blender, from the outside it sounds alright (that's even after the TRD exhaust I installed).

But it didn't get my juices flowing like my previous 350Z, RX8, or even my 335i.

Again the FRS isn't a bad car at all. It makes for a great daily driver. Very reliable and relatively fuel efficient.

For my next car the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and BMW M2 are on my radar.

Higher Being 12-28-2015 10:57 PM

I probably would of got back into an fa5 again. Such a great car, literally kind of the same feeling i got driving the frs. Just more room and front wheel drive obviously. I'm glad i got the frs though. Its been and will continue to be an absolute joy to drive. As long as this car doesnt get stolen from me like the fa5 this will probably be a car I hang onto for years.

Also those new miata's are sick, would certainly consider one of those if the worst would happen to frs, or just pick up another fa5.. haha

Gaiakai 12-28-2015 11:23 PM

After a year of owning my FR-S, I sold it and bought a BRZ. Does that count?

Given the chance though, knowing what I know now, I'd probably get a Cayman S instead.

funwheeldrive 12-28-2015 11:38 PM

There is nothing under 30k that I would rather own, new or used.

kpamir 12-28-2015 11:38 PM

If the turbo frs or brz is a reality yes, if not im going to hold out until i can afford a cayman.
