Joe-G's Raven FRS Journal
Latest Update - Never really updated this thread, but this is how the car finally ended up before i parted it out and moved onto another platform for the track.
Main key differences were: - ZE4018x10 +40 - Arising II Front Bumper, hood - Seibon Wide Front Fenders - Chargespeed sides - RB V1 rear diffuser - Carbon trunk - SARD carbon rear wing - Injen Dual SUS exhaust - JDM spec Cusco Street Zero A Red 6k/6k - Bride VIOS III https://live.staticflickr.com/4179/3...3e30e919_c.jpgUntitled by joeag., on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/4171/3...654a2a53_c.jpgUntitled by joeag., on Flickr --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Old below VVVVV Never got around to making one of these, but I guess Its about time.... Not much of a build, but I guess it'd be nice to have a journal tracking all the things I do to the car. There's a lot to catch up on, but Ill try to post everything in chronological order. Most of the changes are wheel setups LOL. Its currently parked for the winter, but was my DD for almost 2 years. I wish it was as clean as a show car, but If you're scouring builds looking for the pristine examples, I don't think you're in the right place. Its been winter driven, hence the rusted as shit undercarriage, and has been raced around in parking lots adding to the number of scuffs and scratches from cones all over the car. I picked up the autocross bug shortly after owning the car... and the current plan for next year is the same as the last; to make it out to as many autocross and lapping day events as I can. :party0030: %%%Current Mod List%%% Wheels/Suspension Tein Type Master Flex Coilovers Rays Volk CE28N Kics Kyokugen Lug Nuts Dunlop Direzza ZII ARP Extended Wheel Studs Endless SSY Front Brake Pads Endlesss SSY Rear Brake Pads Endless RF650 Brake Fluid Goodridge Stainless Steel Front Brake Hoses Stoptech Stainless Steel Rear Brake Hoses Engine/Exhaust Non-Stop Tuning Crank, Water, and Alt Lightweight Pulleys Sound Tube Delete Gutted Header Gutted Front Pipe Custom Quad Exit Muffler Delete OFT Stage 2 EL 93 Tune HKS Hybrid Sports Oil Filter HKS Super Hybrid Air Filter Drivetrain Forced Fab T Bolt Transmission Stiffener TWM Rear Shifter Bushing Whiteline Positive Shift Gearbox Bushing Insert Whiteline Rear Subframe Bushing Inserts Whiteline Differential and Cradle Bushing Inserts Interior Cusco Duracon Knob Gutted Rear Interior HID Powerhouse 6000k Super White LED Domelight Items Previously Installed, Removed, or Acquired Megan Racing Lowering Springs Rota RT5 Wedssport SA15R TE37 Reps Mille Miglia Wheels (Cant remember the model) Rota SS10 CE28N 17x7.5 Work Emotion CR Kai Grimmspeed Intake Box Prior to parking it for the winter: https://farm1.staticflickr.com/447/1...744c90ba_b.jpg And current status... First part I installed were Megan Racing lowering springs. They were HORRIBLE. Shocks blew after 2 weeks, so I ended up getting rid of them.
I managed to score a deal from a forum vendor JRP (thanks @Stav), and picked up a set of Tein Type Master Flex coilovers. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5719/...265631f396.jpg Came across a deal on some used Rota RT5 wheels, but I didn't end up mounting them and shortly got rid of them... https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5697/...ea456d46_c.jpg I then ordered TRD style aero kit, and a set of 18x9.5 Wedssport SA15R from a local vendor (thanks Rhys @ Revwerks). Wheels were mounted on 255/35/18 Federal 595SS: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3728/...533fb46c_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5075/...cf7690ee_b.jpg |
The stock exhaust just wasn't cutting it with the rear lip. Ordered up a set of exhaust tips, and had a friend weld up a muffler delete... https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5727/...010d4eab_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/746/2...b2be2f2a_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5831/...be2dea3d_b.jpg Also picked up a set of TE37SL reps along the way. I wasn't too happy about how the Dark SA15Rs looked on a black car... not enough contrast. From real wheels to reps... What was I thinking... :bonk::bonk: but really though, I dont have a problem with rep wheels. I understand the differences, just could care less about the #fuckfakeparts mentality. My concern at this point in time was more about aesthetics, rather than function (which has now changed). Straight out of the box. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5793/...ba6c2223_b.jpg Mounted on tires https://farm1.staticflickr.com/603/2...8b060627_b.jpg Exhaust and Wheels https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5714/...5cd637da_b.jpg Photo from the 1st year of Autocrossing... Went autocrossing that summer... If you look closely, you can spot 3 twins :) https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3852/...d1efe864_c.jpg I ended up selling the SL reps to a friend, and threw on a set of Mille Miglia wheels. Somewhere along the lines I got rid of the Mille Miglias, and I managed to pick up a set of Rota SS10 wheels. These were also short lived...
|
And the Rota SS10s were sold to make for a nice set of 17x7.5 CE28Ns! Hey look! A nice set of Work Emotion CR Kai! 17x8 +47 on 235/40/17 Dunlop ZII. Picked these up the same time as the 17x7.5 CE28N (Silver). Non-Stop Tuning Pulleys Quick Review + Grimmspeed Intake Installed.. (Later removed the GS intake, as I decided to utilize the stock airbox for my tune)
Some pictures from my install... Also measured the weight of each pulley. OEM Crank Damper = 2227g NST Crank Pulley = 495g OEM Alternator Pulley = 190g NST Alternator Pulley = 80g OEM Water Pump Pulley = 457g NST Water Pump Pulley = 246g Install went smooth, and was really easy. Took about 30 minutes to do... but I'll probably check and re-torque each nut/bolt after a few hundred km. I tried my best to pay attention to how the car felt prior to install, and my butt dyno tells me that the car feels like it revs faster/accelerates faster. So far so good, only time will tell what kind of long term effect these LW pulleys will have. Good job with the build. The quad tip exhaust looks awesome.

That was the most wheels I've ever seen anyone go through in a thread. What a rollercoaster.

DIY Replacement Mirrors
So my drivers side mirror has had a crack in it for awhile now. I gather it was caused by using an automated cloth wash at the dealership I used to work at...
Since I've recently been in the spirit of making some DIY pieces (ie. Front splitter), I figured I'd try fitting a set of universal mirrors. If it turns out looking like ass, I can always put the stock ones back on. All you really need is cardboard, sheet metal, and tin snips (or dremel). Mirrors Removed. What a PITA. Trying to fish the plug through the hole was a nightmare. Its easier to de-pin the connector (preferred method), or cut the plug off (and re-wire later if needed). https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1688/...36859665_c.jpg 12401830_10156497610015347_7606791784173115987_o by joeag., on FlickrFlickr Carboard dreams https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1487/...24eef29d_c.jpg 12473968_10156497612605347_4446761771655950194_o by joeag., on Flickr Fitting the cardboard template https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5819/...dfd16ca4_c.jpg DSC_0141 by joeag., on Flickr Transferred onto sheet metal https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5661/...e69a37a5_c.jpg DSC_0145 by joeag., on Flickr Doubled it up! https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5691/...fba97e37_c.jpg DSC_0147 by joeag., on Flickr Measured the bolt for hole size (M6x1.25 I beleive) https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5811/...f5afb1ed_c.jpg DSC_0149 by joeag., on Flickr Didn't really fit so great without a gasket. Ended up being a little too big https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1646/...d55c34be_c.jpg DSC_0150 by joeag., on Flickr So I trimmed both down, and fitted the oem gasket. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1696/...f6f3bd23_c.jpg DSC_0154 by joeag., on Flickr Right side https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5650/...819ed017_c.jpg DSC_0159 by joeag., on Flickr and the left! https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1622/...2c200b33_c.jpg DSC_0158 by joeag., on Flickr Now I'm just waiting for the mirrors to come in, so I can mount them up to the base plates and get better looking hardware. Mirrors and base plates will probably be color matched and painted the same time I get my wing. Thanks to @Tye300 and his DIY thread. Couldn't have made it any easier =). |
Had Collective draw my car. So cool! Drawing shows some items I have on the way, and some that are on the wish list :) https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1649/...bf090ce5_c.jpg JoeAGFRS by joeag., on Flickr |
That wing really matches the lines of the car! If it turns out that good in reality, I would say it has to be my the best wing I've seen!
|
subbed!
|
I was with you until you fitted a sheet of plywood to the front. maybe I'm being too judgmental but does that really do anything except look like a sheet of plywood on the front?
It looks like you're having fun with the car though. It's all good. |

I dig the mirrors! I think the mounting plates will look better painted black. Also, will you be able to attach the mirrors to the center of the plates?
