Any recommended Ebay sellers for CF duckbills?

I've done some searching around here and it seems like most people have had good experiences with buying duckbill spoilers from ebay. So I was wondering if anyone here could point me a seller they've purchased from before.

I know modbargains has a decent sale on theirs right now, but it still comes out to nearly $300 after shipping :\ and also isnt a guaranteed perfect fit anyway.

I would not buy ebay parts because they are cheap ebay parts lol!

Just my .02 cents

I normally agree for stuff that are more important. But these duckbills are really just a piece of carbon covered FRP held on with 3M tape. For something purely cosmetic that doesnt have much of a function at all, I'm fine with ebay.

I would agree. Its not a question of functionality, its of fitment.

nickmerronesucks 12-18-2015 03:52 PM

But see sometimes it pays to buy ebay ones because they are more then likely getting the same part as someone else(bigger brand) off of alibaba or something, and jacking the price up not as high as the bigger brand.

For example.. Hey cusco does this look familiar?

And unfortunately even "branded" guys cant guarantee fitment for these things. Nice big warning on modbargain listing for the duckbills saying fitment isnt guaranteed and professional installation is recommended just makes me think they're probably sourcing their piece from the same people as these ebay sellers.

This. ^

ya thats true too. You'd hope the parts that cost a premium would be perfect. Definitely looks slick when it fits though

This whole don't buy off of ebay thing is a load of garbage sometimes. I bought a painted trd spoiler rep, the paint was spot on match, and the fitment was damn near awesome. Saved myself about $500 doing it that way.

On the flip side of that, I bought an AB Flug replica spoiler, fit isn't terrible, but it'll take some work to make it fit. Plus it's not painted, nor did it come with 3M tape.

If I was more motivated, and afternoon of prep could fix it up, but I'm too lazy for that.

I do agree though, that there is a lot of hate for no reason. Kind of like the cheap coil over argument.

ZOMFGAARON 12-18-2015 07:16 PM

I bought a trd rep spoiler from an eBay seller. Being in SoCal I picked it up locally for $45 fitment is spot on just haven't painted it for install

I wouldn't say for no reason. People are die hard fans of certain companies and get offended when you say eBay parts because the general idea is they're replicas or knockoffs when the company that the other person supports did research and development for it.

I get their side but I'm all for eBay parts. No way am I paying $120 for a coolant cap or oil cap just because it's genuine. It's all cosmetic.

Agreed. Normally I hate anything fake/replica because I believe the original designers deserve credit. But with stuff like this duckbill spoiler, its so simple and all of these branded guys are copying the TRD design anyway. It also seems like a fairly "generic" spoiler design that exists for a bunch of other cars as well.

Anyways, as for this topic.. I hope someone can point me to a ebay seller they've had success with. But so far all the listings look identical to me and they're probably all from the same chinese factory anyway. Will just go for the lowest price as long as seller has 99%+ feedback if no one has a suggestion in the next week or so.

I'm roughly 99% sure all of them, including the vendors, come from the same place in China.

With that in mind, I bought one of the carbon fiber duckbill spoilers last summer and the fitment was terrible. The polyurethane/plastic ones are OK; I have those on my car now. The CF one had huge gaps to the trunk upper surface.

Agreed. I'm all for giving companies credit, but when they raise the price up, just because its a Brand name company, I don't really see how that helps the car community. Everything, even for a simple lip, its fairly expensive. I know some material cost more and such, but still over priced for most items. That's why some parts, eBay seems like a good buy (Except performance parts lol).

Hopefully you can find one that fits well or requires little work to make it fit well, since I'm in the market for one also.

Mine's not as aggressive as the ModBargains one, I have the TRD rep in CF, but the fitment is sub-par. It's a definite 5 footer piece. Middle sits flush, edges are a bit too high (few mm). and the bottom basically has a 1/8th inch gap all the way around, but man, I do love it.

This is my ebay purchase - TRD Rep, Painted. Color is spot on. Zero fitment issues. This is when ebay goes right. I believe the seller was OEMDirect. $170ish for a painted, perfect fit. Ill take that any day.

Ah damn, I looked em up and it def looks good. But sadly no CF or paint-matched option for my CWP BRZ.

Maybe I'll grab this and put a carbon wrap on it.. hmm

Somebody, PLEASE.

Duck bill = mouth

Duck TAIL = rear

Which sounds more like a spoiler to you?

bhmax 12-21-2015 07:09 PM

Just ordered a TRD replica on eBay from oemdirect also, prepainted ultramarine/galaxy blue. I had good luck on an eBay spoiler on another car, fingers crossed for this one. Pretty cheap if it doesn't turn out well. Couldn't seem to find an actual TRD prepainted my color, and wanted to save the money. Hopefully I'll be happy like BDotG.

1. All the manufacturers for the FT86 call em duckbills.

2. The slope is also less aggressive, more like a duck's mouth than a duck's tail.

3. Who cares?

you're fighting decades of people calling them duckbills, wrong hill to die on

Bumping a two month old thread with no information to add... :bonk:

Ikon motorsports is a vendor on here and they sell painted versions. They are also on ebay.

Ish 02-11-2016 09:17 PM

Ikon I have had good luck with, plus they have good customer service. ModBargain? Be carefull terrible product at twice the price and they will hide behind we told you it might need adjusting but they never told you how much adjusting. Ikon is the way to go, and save yourself some money.

continuecrushing 02-11-2016 09:32 PM

I have the modbargains one on my car, and fitment wasn't perfect-I did sand some of it.

And if fitment is way off, they can be returned.

And Hell, theres been a few now that get installed at the shop and they literally bolted right on, with zero fitment issues.
