I'm moving to Hawaii!!!!!

Gotta drop her off in San Diego Friday morning, and since the holidays are near, they will not guarantee delivery until Jan 4th.

No racetracks, amazing mountain roads, strict cops, jealousy slightly downgraded.

Dude, I didn't know you were coming out here?!?! I would've totally stayed.

Well, not really. :-)

Hotrodheart 12-17-2015 09:33 PM

It costs like three times as much to ship the car as it'll cost to fly myself. And my flight only takes six hours.

Should have sold it and bought a new one there. It is Hawaii so you could have got a Lava one.

I considered selling it, and buying once I got there. But I crunched the numbers and it didn't work out. You save on shipping ($1052) but have to pay sales tax, plus registration, fees, etc.

As far as the Hot Lava, yeah, I can get hot lava any time I want now...

Been there; done that.

Besides, sometimes you have to give up something of a lower order to achieve something of a higher order.

Actually, there's a road quite some distance from my place that is at most a straightaway with some occasional turns. It sounds boring, and my opinion may be skewed since the FR-S is my first sports car, but I enjoyed driving down the road and back, more so than the neighboring canyon with a good amount of turns yet too much traffic and slow drivers to deal with. Mind you, this was done at night, which I felt heightened the experience for me.

FRSapex 12-17-2015 11:55 PM

Youre gonna love it.

I grew-up in Hawaii and now live in San Diego... I hate having to wear wetsuits!

Atticus808 12-18-2015 12:39 AM

where in Hawaii?
I just came back from Maui and I want to move:(

86geek 12-18-2015 01:13 AM

Just FYI if you ever have to do any warranty work on your car the toyota dealership here in Hawaii will not honor it. Servco Hawaii Inc. owns the Toyota/Scion dealerships here on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Big Island. Servco Hawaii is not part of Toyota USA, they are their own entity. Therefore they don't have to abide to any warranties Toyota USA has. It's the same if I was to move to California the Toyota dealers there will not honor any warranties for my car. Because I bought my car from Servco Scion.

OP are you being stationed here at one of the military bases? Prepare yourself for some frickin traffic on the freeway & everywhere else. We got RAIL construction going on.

The Big Island; Kona. My first time there. I previously lived on Oahu.

I would feel ya. But your moving to FREAKIN paradise!
Rent a jeep!

Braces 12-18-2015 10:07 AM

Love Maui. The road to Hana is very twisty and fun as long as there is no traffic. Never been to the big island. Very jealous.

I almost forgot. Easier to get "leid" in Hawaii.

NOHOME 12-18-2015 11:32 AM

Is this a permanent move or a temporary assignment?

My thoughts on Island living is "Anyone who wants to live on an Island has not lived on an Island." They get small after a while and everything is either expensive or not available. You will develop a disdain for tourist. You are about to move in to a status of "Not a tourist but not from here either".

Cars in Hawaii rust like crazy due to the salt air.

As an experience to be had though, any living in a new environment is worth experiencing. Have fun.

Oahu, Ewa Beach.
But grew up surfing mostly southside.
Recline the FRS passenger seat and you fit your board - I seatbelt mine in.(use a board sock so as not to get wax on seat)

It's permanent. I ain't coming back.

I've lived there before, on Oahu. I don't anticipate Island Fever.

If the car rusts, I'll just get another.

That can't be bad. Maybe it's like Vegas: Women come out here hoping for a vacation story to regret.

For such a desolate place, what's the speeding ticket situation like? Can you pretty much go 80+ without getting nabbed?

That looks like it'd be fun to drive but what's the deal if you break down? Pretty much wait until a policeman/tow trunk finds you before you starve to death, get eaten by something, or get picked up by a serial killer?

I think everybody missed the joke that the road is long and straight.

I've done a few round trips to Vegas from San Diego in a rented car. I averaged 90+ without issue.

If only my luck on the asphalt carried over to the BlackJack tables...

RustySocket 12-29-2015 01:56 AM

Having lived on Hawaii, at some point your going to want a capable 4WD, if for nothing more than ground clearance.
