Scion FR-S coming to Gran Turismo this week

Not sure if this is old news, the Scion will be available as a free download in GT5 tomorrow.

More video game news, but this time of a more serious nature. Sometime tomorrow you'll be able to boot up your PS3 and download Twin Ring Motegi for Gran Turismo 5. That'll cost you $5.
However, it won't cost you anything at all to download a Scion FR-S to go with the Toyota 86 you already have in your garage.

Nice! Thanks for that info.

What do you mean? The steering wheel is on the left instead of the right... that's about it.

This.

Man Im pissed. Picked the game up tonight just to drive my frs in it. Install plus updates took 4.5 hours. I got to do a few laps and all I could notice how shitty the game looks. Shift 2 looks years ahead of this. The frs gearing is also off. 3rd gear tops out around 80 something in real life it's more around 100. Not happy about this purchase I just should have borrowed the game from work. But glad I had a GameStop gift card to use and didn't waste my money. :mad0260:

Jeff Lange 06-27-2012 12:25 AM

M/T redlines at 85mph in 3rd. A/T would go higher, but the game is probably using the M/T gearing (they usually do).

You need to relax bro. Shift 2 and GT5 are completely different games. Shift 2 is more unrealistic. If you're not playing GT5 with a steering wheel you're gonna have a bad time.

GT franchise was never the top in graphics but the physics are good.

Gearing can be customised by purchasing the fully custom tranmission where you can input specific gear ratios to match your car.

Everything I've seen says that the ft86 is exclusive to Gran Turismo for right now, but may eventually make it's way to Forza like Porsche did, or it may be in the next Forza game this October.

I'm glad they came out with the Scion version in GT5 though, I actually picked up GT5 the other day for the first time in months and started playing it just because of the gt86. lol

Sigh-on-Rice 06-27-2012 08:53 AM

Yes, I downloaded it last night, pretty cool but still waiting for the BRZ.

Curses! Oh well, looks like I'll have an actual reason to buy GT5 now. Maybe my PS3 will become slightly more than a Bluray player. hahaha. Thanks for the info. Hopefully, they add it in for Forza4 in a car pack at sometime when the exclusivity runs out.

feldy 06-27-2012 10:30 AM

I'm not talking about the physics end but the presentation. The tracks look like they did on ps2. The render sucks plain and simple.

Having switched back and forth between GT4 and GT5 somewhat extensively I can confirm that they look nothing alike, haha.

That being said, certain things in GT5 could use massive work, like shadows. What the heck is with the shadows?!?

I think GT5 is an amazing game, and I love it, but honestly for how long it took, it should have had a more polished result.

Jeff

feldy 06-27-2012 12:32 PM

Maybe I'm being harsh since I do gave development for a living but. After playing Shift 1 and then Shift 2 they blow GT5 out of the water in terms of presentation. I have not had the chance to pick or or play Forza but I should.

vitasoy 06-27-2012 12:58 PM

GT5 had the gt86 so long ago though..

The shadow issue is actually a general problem with PS3 development. If you look at most of their games they struggle in this area. GT5 a heck of a lot more though.

As for the game it's good, keeps me busy enough at times. Going to go home and grab the FRS tonight. I already have the other gt86 cars they released but still want the FRS in my collection, haha.

roguetadhg 06-27-2012 01:54 PM

I came from playing Forza to GT5. I love GT5 for being what it is. Graphics? It's a simulator, I can be okay with that. Although, I think a wheel is much more needed in the game it gives me confidence that I would be able to use a 3-pedal layout.

The things that blew me away the most about GT5 is the time/weather changing. And headlights. Both of which have their own difficulties - froggy headlamps, dyrl, wipers, inside-car lights. The little things that make those two additional things a big leap for me in terms of immersive experience.

I've had the Toyota 86 (LH). But I don't think I seen the Scion. I have to admit, I use games to see what the real thing would be like since I don't have the ability to see what the car looks like at night.

I've just downloaded the FR-S :party0030:

Question, which GT5 tires are the closest to the real stock tires in your opinion ??

It felt slightly grippier. It does break loose and slide pretty well at the final corner of Tsukuba when you down shift to 3rd and turn in.

Yes you should. It's nice. I try to do all the races from the ****pit view now just for the little subtleties of the game. I don't get to play that often (too busy with side projects). But it's definitely a solid racing simulator.

I started falling out of love with the GT franchise with GT4. I felt that they shifted too much effort towards the steering wheel and left the regular controller players behind. I even bought the wheel to see if that would help. The problem is that you can't get any G-force feedback for breaking or accelerating without some sort of hydraulics (and that is only limited to a max of 1.0G), so it's still not a real simulator.

I do like playing the racing games, but I have gravitated more towards the feel and style of the Forza franchise. Oh, and the interface with Forza is much better than in GT3 or GT4. I haven't played GT5 yet, so I can't comment on that one.

First of all you must have a bad HDTV that is not 1080p. GT5 looks awesome if you have the right setup. 4.5 hours to do all your updates? What kind of internet connection do you have? There are a lot of updates if you are starting from scratch but dang bro...4.5 hours! WOW

Just saying...it is the best looking and more realistic racing game out there.

Forza and GT5 is all you need to play. Everything else is bunk...

naticedog04 06-27-2012 06:39 PM

Thanks for the info, i got some time to chill tonight so imma down load the frs for sure... Been a huge fan of gt since it came out on ps1... This was the first part of my introduction to cars and modification before i could legally drive... Plenty of good times with this series and one of the reasons i would never buy an x-box... Thanks again OP and thanks GT5!!!

I bought the game couple months ago and the graphics is horrible like you say. I used to have Forza 4 before my Xbox360 died and it was way nicer in graphics dept.

Liquidsnake 06-27-2012 07:47 PM

I am picking the game up in an hour. I played it for a while when it first released, but was supremely disappointed. Forget Forza 4 I thought Forza 3 blew it away. By the time Forza 4 came out, it made GT 5 seem archaic.

The Menu system is so bad and poorly designed. Single player seemed like a chore. B Spec was really misguided. Actually One of the most disappointing games for me this generation. I'm stupidly picking it up again to play around with a car I already own in real life. I really need help.

HAHAHA I just re-bought GT5 yesterday after I found out about the FRS release. At least this way I don't have to use real gas and waste miles on my real car lol.

Max Schnell 06-28-2012 12:46 AM

I noticed the Scion has much higher tuning limits than the GT86. Top power is well over 300hp and I did not even add the exhaust and intake.

What fun this car is at 305hp.

im not sure about you guys but the only cars i dont see on there are the FR-S Concept, FRS and the BRZ...

Shizuma 06-28-2012 02:07 AM

So for the people that already downloaded it, where exactly do you find the FS-R once you download it? I have it downloaded but there's no dealer for Scion and it's not under Toyota either.
