Waterjet metal cutting?

Does anyone here have access to a waterjet metal cutting machine? I would love to make a sign for my garage that says Big Green Shop out of metal so I can let it rust and hang it from the rafters. Give me a shout if you can help!

I don't have access to one, but I know a shop in Vancouver that has one that does lots of work for us. You could also have it laser cut, I know a good place for that in Tualatin..So if you can't find a free cut give me a shout.

I don't really want to pay for it, hoping to trade. We'll see if anything comes along. Thanks though!

Waterjet would be overkill and more expensive for something this simple. I'd go with a laser cutter.

Welded letters look cool too, like the Myth Busters sign

I have access to water jet and Plasma, plasma would look more authentic once rusted up nicely,

what kind of trading are you anticipating?

I would trade labor... maybe a spring or coilover install? Use of my shop? I don't need anything huge and fancy, just something cool so I could give the place a name. :)

Pretty sure theirs is plasma cut.

Darren, I mean your shop could always use a plasma cutter :happyanim:

DarrenDriven 06-27-2012 01:53 AM

Yeah, I was thinking I needed one anyway... just need a better reason than to make a cool sign, haha!

WRB-DZA-BRZ 06-27-2012 02:16 AM

I might be able to make one with a CNC plasma machine.

DarrenDriven 06-27-2012 02:27 AM

If you really could do that I would be SO STOKED!

I am really not sure of the details, but in my head I see a big rusty metal rectangle with BIG GREEN SHOP cut out of it.

If you have access to the equipment then let me know for sure!

Neziah 06-29-2012 04:19 PM

Hey how big of a sign are you thinking of?

DarrenDriven 06-29-2012 05:43 PM

Thinking of letters that are at least 6" tall. So maybe a sign that is 12" high and proportional width... possibly one separate sign for each word. Or all together. I would like to use scrap metal, so it mostly depends on what is available.

Hey man, are you still needing a sign? I may of found a hook up. One of the welders here at work has a CNC plasma burner that he makes signs with. I can hit him up next week and see what he says if you are still looking for one.

Yeah, that would be cool. I'm trying to do it on the cheap (or free) so keep that in mind. Let me know!

digital_assassin 09-14-2012 01:11 PM

Darren - I manage a large steel plant. Free is easy. Give me a call and tell me what your looking for and consider it done. We deal in heavier stuff and it would be flame cut. I would have them sand blast it so it would rust evenly.

CBR600RR 09-14-2012 01:15 PM

Well - if you are planning to let it rust, why not have some one make it with a plasma cutter?

it would probably be cheap or free because it would not take long to do if you had the steel and the stencil... and the fact that the cuts are melted i think it would go along with your rusted look.

DarrenDriven 09-14-2012 01:29 PM

Dang, Kevin, that is awesome! I'll probably see you on Sunday anyway, we can chat about it a little then. Sweet!

digital_assassin 09-14-2012 10:13 PM

I definitely will be stopping by. Need to dial in ride height before alignment. I can't get my neighbors floor jack under the car :)
