Um shift light.....who knew

What the hell, I just learned about the shift light and setting your revs. Does anyone here use their shift light and revometer?

imaguitar 12-13-2015 02:40 PM

I think there was a thread from like a while ago that discussed the "secret" things the car had that nobody really knew about. haha

Pickleahoy 12-13-2015 02:41 PM

Um, yes?

Tcoat 12-13-2015 02:43 PM

There are all sorts of weird and wonderful things to be found.

I played with it once by shifting at the light like it was a video game. Got old really fast.

I'd like to see that thread. I knew about the shift light, but I was please to discover the telescoping steering wheel.

Fun fact: my life is so exciting that I read the owners manual entirely before bed for a few nights.

Mine sits right beside me at my home computer. Makes for fast reference somebody asks a question.

This link could go in the Tech info of the noob thread. I am sure there are a few out there with no manual since some people are jerks and keep them when they trade in. On a related note I have the owners manuals for just about every car I owned.

strat61caster 12-13-2015 04:05 PM

Conveniently my shift light was set at ~7150 rpm from day 1, very useful.

And yes was not a surprise because I read the manual.

Oh god no. Without Google or manuals I am a blithering idiot. I just disguise it well.
I actually taught a night course on EH&S law at the local college for a few years. My opening line was always "I am not going to instruct you on a single law in this class but when we are done you will know exactly where to find what you need, when you need it." It was far more effective then trying to remember thousands and thousands of individual facts in a six week course.

So on topic, I was aware of the shift light when I lurked these forums back around 2012 or 2013. When I got my FR-S, I had mine set at 3500 RPM for the first 1000 miles, then 7000 RPM after those 1000 miles.

Well we could get way off topic!

I have mine set at 6800, ostensibly to give a small warning margin before the cut-out kicks in. In practice I find it's too subtle to really notice if I'm actively pushing it.

What's a revometer? Is that pronounced rev-ah-met-er, or rev-oh-meet-er?

Check your glovebox. I hear a handful of cars got a 12v aux socket, but that's just what my friend Manuel told me

See! It works.

I'm still breaking my car in and find it very helpful. I've set it at 3500 so it's just a touch under the recommended 4000. I do find myself hitting that point quite often which shows just how hungry the car is for higher revs despite not having the best acceleration.
