Car share FR-S Crashed

Quote:

It was a co-op collision.
A man driving a Modo car-share sports car said he "just lost control" and drove into the front of the Mountain Equipment Co-op on West Broadway just after 2 a.m. PT.
There were no injuries, and only minor damage to the sturdy store front.
"I don't think that's what they meant when they said to bring the car back to the co-op," said onlooker Denis Grenier.

Yeah, let's have a tail happy rwd sports car for car share users who will undoubtedly try to drive it in a reckless manner in a city where it rains half the year :iono:

How is that even "news"?

Welcome to Canada, Eh.

Well, I reckon it was a slow night up in BC.

Now, the follow up story:

Last night, a FR-S (BRZ) was crash tested into a block wall. Note that the design of the crumple zones worked perfectly. The driver was uninjured ....... but the car was totaled.

Watch the Canadian version of cops (To Serve and Protect) if you are every really bored and can find it. On the BC one they did a whole 15 minute segment on chasing two guys because the one dude threw a chip bag on some railway tracks.

I hate when people say speed might be a cause of the accident.

I be like, damn right it won't crash if it ain't moving.

I feel like every day, your profile picture zooms more and more on the face. Soon I'll just be focused on the 2 eyes, the nose, and the upper mouth.

I do!

All I learned from this is that if you want a car that can withstand an accident, drive a MEC.

The comments on the article want to make me slam my head into a wall:

And this one is sort of close to what the driver was probably doing:

I saw one in my university's parking lot the other day.

I was amazed that Modo thought lending out a sports car that's RWD that most people wouldn't even realize that the car is or what it means to university students is a good idea.

I'm also amazed at how he even managed to crash into a store like that in a very urban area where there's a lot of traffic and stop lights. Like, how awful do you have to be at driving.

I'm always amazed how people think RWD is something that normal people can't drive.

And RWD with a stick requires a full education at Hogwarts to some!

GhostRai 12-07-2015 08:50 PM

I remember seeing Modo announce they got a Firestorm FR-S 6AT a while back. I saw that same FR-S driving around UBC once and thought, yeah that won't last long. It's not particularly a fancy or fast car but... when Modo introduces it as a exciting sports car in their fleet, especially to the likes of a car co-op user (most likely don't have as much experience with cars or parking (but I won't get into that)). It's not the idea that a RWD is impossible to handle unless you track day bro 24/7, but its easier to get into trouble with than a Ford Fiesta from Modo. My parents Lexus CT200h, full throttle nothing happens. My RWD SUV? Full throttle and the rear tires spin with the TC light flashing.

Just watch me smoke, drink, eat and text while I'm working a clutch.

Well three out of four I do all the time. I can barely text sitting down with no distractions so that is right out.

lol jk, I only have flappy paddles, don't need to worry about a clutch so that means 2 things:

1) I'm not a real enthusiast
2) I'm a hazard on the road because I don't have the same amount of control over my car compared to having a clutch.

Well that is common knowledge and goes without saying. How can you possibly feel the car I mean really come on man.

Packofcrows 12-07-2015 09:45 PM

RWD can take you by the booboo if you dont know it.

While dismissing all the pickup trucks on the road which, unless loaded, are MUCH more tail happy than any sports car.

Whenever I need a truck, I usually borrow my dad's Dakota. 2WD and no traction control. Almost always kills me because I'm not used to tail happy nature at low speeds.

And before anyone says "but 4WD bro!" How many truck owners drive around in 4 by all the time? Answer: none.
