Wow.

Now all we need are some specs!!

poormans_LFA 03-01-2011 01:22 AM

Looks pretty good, and practically street ready. Nice consolation for no Supra come-back.

dalli 03-01-2011 01:23 AM

Is it me or the back looks like a scion.....

matadormi5 03-01-2011 01:25 AM

pretty cool. If this is indeed the "best indication of the production car" then I am very pleased so far.

dalli 03-01-2011 01:39 AM

I agree, It does look good. All i need now is a rear shot because it looks like the changed it bit, maybe its the spoiler.

Not too hot on that M3-esque side vent, and wish the character line went across the rear fender. Otherwise it's hawt, love how the front-end has kept its aggressive look, and maybe even got more aggressive.

poormans_LFA 03-01-2011 02:13 AM

hmm, i'm really looking forward to the pictures from Geneva. not sure how i feel about it from those pictures. it still looks good, IMO, but that picture is a step backwards. hopefully it's just a bad angle/poor photoshop. ;)

Dimman 03-01-2011 02:33 AM

Compare with:

Edit: I don't know how I feel about the ridiculous fender arch to wheel size difference. Going to need some more angles...

70NYD 03-01-2011 03:01 AM

I tnk that's just a Photoshop based on a number of things (namely the silouete, front teaser and the lifter up cover) By no means would Toyota release a actual accurate rendering prior to actually unveiling this thing to the press at Geneva.. Just what I think ;)

Hmm... I never thought about that. Could be a possibility. We'll just have to wait (a few hours) and see.

Doubt it's a photoshop, a lot of the details match. Wheel design, that arch shape, lower bumper details.

It's not as though Toyota released it, press get a press kit ahead of time which usually carries an embargo date. They probably broke the embargo. Especially print organizations have a lead time to publish, so they get assets before the unveiling in order to print them in a timely manner.

s2upid 03-01-2011 03:23 AM

man that's really fricken ugly, and totally a step backwards... i really hope the car on the floor shows better lines than that rendering. if so, i don't think i'll be waiting for this car.

edit: the thing that gets me the most is that photo doesn't look proportional. just something is off.. bah, the siloutte in the other thread made it look really sexy, so I hope it shows better lines than this photo.

Toyota has confirmed that it will launch its new rear-drive coupé in 2012 — a car previewed by this latest version of the FT-86 concept at the Geneva show.
Dubbed FT-86 II, the concept is an evolution of the car first seen at Tokyo in autumn 2009. It is claimed by Toyota to be “the clearest indication yet as to the final design of Toyota’s next sports car”.
See official pics of the Toyota FT-86 II concept
The new concept confirms that Toyota’s European design team could not make the original’s ultra-low bonnet line comply with pedestrian impact regulations, despite it being fitted with a Subaru-developed horizontally opposed engine.
Other changes to the original concept include a more heavily sculpted front bumper, a more angular front grille and a deeper front splitter. Strips of LED daytime running lights also feature at the front, and a larger fixed spoiler is added at the rear. There is also a new design for the alloy wheels.
Toyota says the car “doesn’t rely on a heavy, large-displacement powertrain for its performance”. Instead, it has a 2.0-litre engine that is, along with the driving position, set back as far and as low as possible for a low centre of gravity and optimal weight distribution.
Subaru has been Toyota’s development partner in the FT-86 project and has displayed its involvement at Geneva with its Boxer Sports Car Architecture concept. It features a clear plastic body that hints at the car’s eventual design and allows its chassis, engine and suspension package to be showcased.

its cool, but don't like the hood as it sits too high :( also I'm not digging those AUDI style fog lights :(

70NYD 03-01-2011 03:48 AM

Ok I was completely wrong it's a match and fuck it's sexy :D
