No clue what that is. I'll assume it's a suspension mod?

dori. 06-26-2012 09:33 AM

Possibly the Tein Type Flex coilover? Are they even out for the Zx6?

No idea. The OP expects us to know what they are already.

RallySport Direct 06-26-2012 04:42 PM

That is actually the Tein Flex coilover system.

Super popular do to the hight build quality, large number of adjustments, and ease of use. We have sold several sets already, and Ive had a chance to drive one of our customers BRZ with this system and simply could not believe how drastic the change was to the cars handling.

I'd be interested if you could elaborate a little more on the difference in handling feel between the Tein Flexes vs stock.

:)

Depends on a lot of factors. The Flex does have valving and spring rates that are much better for spirited driving. The amount of adjustment available in the Teins is great, too.

Agree 100%. For some, the stock suspension is great, and generally that would be for people who want to retain the stock comfort and ride height and are happy with the way the car handles out of the box. Now someone who would buy the Tein Flex would want much more adjustability, as the Flex will give you independent ride height adjustment, springs pre-load adjustment, damper adjustment(how stiff the strut is), and solid upper mounts for a very precise and direct steering feel. Overall the Flex's would be ideal for someone who is looking for a big bump in suspension performance, and is willing to sacrifice some comfort to get there. :)

Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Rick

Check out the price; well over half the cost of a BRZ :confused0068: http://www.stohl-racing.com/shop/cat...roducts_id=116

i think his point is that people always going around saying tein sucks. then he shows them it doesnt. then people say oh well thats not what im talking aobut. just because they offer lower end stuff doesnt mean they suck. you can buy decent tein products if you want

denkigrve 06-26-2012 08:44 PM

I was deciding between Mono-flexes and the RSR iSports. I went with the RSRs simply because I liked their spring rates better for daily driving. I'm looking into the mono-flexes in a few years though since they'll be able to provide me with the in-car control, high build quality, and great ride quality. Tein makes good products, they wouldn't be this big if they made junk.

Tein sucks.... you need a contract to buy that set and they have the right to refuse sale. (oh wait, they dont even make them anymore) Thank you, please come again.

oh cool, zero information. tein rocks...they make the best suspension ever. did i do it right? im pretty sure that my statement has just as much validity as yours. tein makes plenty of decent products in their given price ranges. i dont know of too many more companies that do both the testing and production in house. not everybody is looking for 2800 coilovers

Dimman 06-26-2012 08:57 PM

They make a range of options. Just like car companies do. Pic the one in the role you want that fits your budget.

Why is the car community so racist of the Chinese and Taiwanese? Do you use a computer or a smart phone? GUARANTEE you those are made in China.

Tein does everything in house, and then has some plants elsewhere that do assembly of parts for them. Welcome to 2012 and how big companies that operate on a global scale work?

They are not a chinese knock-off company. They simply are trying to keep up with demand.

Any idea of the difference in spring rates between Tein Flex and the RSRi sports? I think i read somewhere that tein flex comes with 7kg front and rear.

I am really looking for something that has independent spring rate preload and height (i.e. no helper springs) and wont shake my new car's interior to pieces. I am over super stiff coilovers for daily driving. Are the tein flex really that stiff?

The RSR's are 6k/7k up to 8k/9k, you choose which rates you want when you order from RSR. That sold me on the coils. So far they don't seem that much stiffer than stock for daily driving. I'm currently set at like 6 for the dampening. I've only driven like 40 miles on them at this point. I wanted to stay closer to the stock setup which is setup stiffer in the rear than the front.

spiller 06-26-2012 09:53 PM

@denkigrve which rates did you select? 6k front 7k rear? Any idea what the stock spring rates are? Also do you know if your RSR coilovers are base height adjustable? Do the fronts have camber adjustable tops or just regular pillowball and how many steps do the damper adjusters have?

thanks!

cheers

what is thte stock spring rate? when you say 6 for damping do you mean the shock setting? because at first it seemed you were talking about spring rates.

Yeah 6 clicks into hard from soft on the shock setting.

Stock spring rates are:

FR-S:
3.0k/3.3k

BRZ:
3.3k/3.3k

can you tell me if thats dropped the full 55mm? or does it have room to go still? and its on 17"s correct?

RallySport Direct 06-27-2012 11:11 AM

Tein offers a very large span of products everything from springs, and the Street Basic( this is a model of coilover they offer) that is just a strut and spring all the way up to 17K GroupN suspension. Only reason I ever hear people complain about the systems is simply that they got the wrong model coilover for the application. Simply think of it as buying snow tires to run on the race track, or buying full slicks to drive in the rain. If you select the proper model of coilover from them for your need they work amazing. Having owned several sets, and driven all of the systems that they offer its a HUGE difference between the SuperStreet coilover to the SuperRacing. If you go out to a time attack event and have SuperStreets then you brought a knife to a gun fight, or if you get the SuperRacings and drive your car on the street of course your ride is going to be in pain as you have competition coilovers on a street car.

Once coilover cant do it all, no matter the manufacture and what we see by far the most of a problem is people want a soft ride for daily driving, but also have the same coilover be as good as 10K+ race coilovers, and also be 100% maintenance free and use them for 3-4years with out ever considering even washing them off.

If you guys have any question about TEIN's product line, please dont hesitate to contact us directly as we would gladly help out with selecting the proper system for your application.

The drop in this image is 1.5" or 38mm roughly lower then stock.

In house engineered, tested, manufactured, and track proven. These guys build some of the best coilovers on the market!

Who Runs TEIN?
Well just a couple of these "little" guys who respectively may or may not have won one or more championships, events, or set a few records using OFF THE SHELF TEIN products. The spring rats might be changed, along with valving to cope with the spring rate change(this is part of set up), however overall they are using off the shelf components that are available to every day people.

@RallySport Direct you mentioned you drove the customer's car with the Tein Flex fitted? What was the ride like? I am after something with separate spring rate and height adjustment but do not want a harsh ride (not too much harsher than factory which is quite firm) as I dont want to shake my new car to pieces. Any insights?

I didnt get a chance to mess with the settings as I only drove the car for about 10min, so my insight is only on that setting. Out of 16 adjustments, the suspension was set on 12 from, so about 3/4 to full stiff.
The ride was firm, but not what I would say harsh or overly stiff. As it is a twin tube shock they have a tendency to be a bit more compliant on the road and would handle high speed bumps quite well with out making me just all over the seat.
Handling was drastically increased, the turn in was simply unbelievable. This would of course have to do with the fact that the wheels and tires where also upgraded to something a bit more sporty. The car was a bit more eager to be controlled by throttle input and it was much easier to rotate the car with the right foot. Pitch and dive where also reduced quite a bit, making the car much more planted and driving feedback was also improved allot giving more confidence in pushing the car hard.

I had a chance to talk to the customer quite a bit, and he said that on full stiff they where a bit more then what you would want to drive with on the street. Meaning that these would work great for someone who planned on doing several track days a year running a S compound tire with 100-140 tread wear.
On full soft he stated that it was able to be about as soft as stock, which was driving him nuts as the car started exhibiting body roll like the stock car. This lets me know that the range of adjustment is actually quite large on the shocks.

Next time I get a chance to drive this car, Ill see if he will let me mess with the adjustments a bit so I can check out the full range of the shock for myself and will post up reviews at that point.

nix 06-28-2012 07:01 AM

It's rare for people on these threads to have wide brand experience myself included so it's usually positive feedback, regarding the flex they have an inflated RRP, and if you are going to spend in the $2.5k region for them the hypermax, rsr i, and other options [someone else step in] need considering. I have a set of flex on my supra but probably would not pay this price for them.

spiller 06-28-2012 07:30 AM

Nix, I have never been that fond of Tein for similar reasons but I would never go anywhere near an HKS coilover. I have Hypermax in my Evo and they are deadset the worst coilovers ive ever had the displeasure of using.

On paper it seems like Tein Flex is the perfect hybrid between a street and track coilover which suits my needs perfectly. Yes the price is inflated but there are other avenues than just RRP. If you look hard enough you can easily save yourself a couple hundred dollars there.

OT - I'd take that bet =p The company I work for manufactures in China primarily to avoid customs issues, while making products in the US, Israel, and Ireland for reasons along the same lines....and they are a tech company.

ultra 06-28-2012 10:51 AM

I believe that the Tein range goes something like:

Super Steets
Flex
Mono flex
Circuit Master

There's a thread around somewhere with the spring rates.

I'd say that they're not bad in general - superior to stuff like BC racing coil overs, for example, but nowhere near to serious stuff like custom set up KW V3s, ASTs or JRZs.

In short, the Flex and Monoflex ought to fill out the 'middle area' nicely for many people.

How are you liking those iSports coil overs? I'm considering a set. I'm looking to how you feel ride quality compares to stock. I'm looking to lower my car 1"-1.2" but want to keep the ride at least as comfortable as stock.

I have the Tein type Flex on my Nissan Skyline and I love them. Looking to buy them for my FR-S when I get back to the states. The adjustability makes a huge difference.
