Plasti Dip Emblems

this stuff works great!

cheap, no mess, no prepping needed

just spray and go!

when you're tired of it, just peel it

Please do! I have black and white... but I feel white will just be too dirty and might look rice.

Here's how red turned out on my stock wheels. I kinda like it.

Great work! This is on my to-do list. I already have the spray, just trying to decide if I want to do the Scion logos or get the Toyota ones.

I had also considered doing the BeatSonic Shark Fin in flat black but got talked out of it by MomHawk.

Do like, did you pinstripe it or what did you use?

FreedE 06-26-2012 11:20 AM

How durable is this stuff?

I don't like the Toyota emblem at all, but it looks so much better black.

Starscream15 06-26-2012 12:45 PM

I've been thinking about Plasti-dipping the stock wheels as well as the silver colored bezels around the radio and passenger side. As seen in the following video, it seems fairly easy!

It just red plastidip... taped it off got to work. had to do it in all one thick coat otherwise the tape will pull off the dip when its dry.

The pics I posted above are all plastidip. If you use it.. just be patient.. put on thin coats and let them dry like the video says.

If you have to tape something off (see my wheel photo above) then you kinda have to do something small and one thick coat and then pull off the tape before it dries.. it's a pain but if done right gives good results..

Here's an example of doing things on the dash... I'm going to peel it and re-coat it though because One side didn't come out like I liked and I had to use a 2nd can and the color wasn't a perfect match... but here it is:

Thanks for the info. I meant to ask you if that's how you did this or if you painted it, now I know. It's a little too 'young' for me but I like the look. You did a great job on it.

im going to do a different approach. im not going to plasti dip the whole wheel but just the silver part on the spokes

first ill use flat black plasti dip. then top it of with the glosisifier

FakeWhiteMan 06-26-2012 05:25 PM

I keep meaning to do my orange FR-S emblems in black.

I'm coating my wheels right now. So far they look really good. It seems to be a good color for DGM.

I'll post up pics when they are done.

Edit: Finished the first. My apologies for the Thread Hijack OP!

Young eh? LOL I'll be 40 next year... I'm doing it for fun... and it makes the girlfriend smile so that's a plus...

I'll never grow up! :P

WolfsFang 06-26-2012 06:42 PM

Dammit looks like im going to home depot and buying 4 cans for my wheels. I really like the red dash so im thinking of that or a different color. Did you remove the dash, if so how easy it is?

40, please. I've shirts older than that! ;)

Hey, I'm good with it, and even thought "Hmmm, I might do that" when I first saw your photos, but in the end, I think I want a real CF piece to replace it. I'm sure those are coming down the road somewhere.

Plasti-Dip on DGM wheels

2 Attachment(s)
Got the first two done and mounted. iPhone doesn't take the best pics but in case anyone was wondering what they look like on DGM.

Kept the Suby center caps stock 'cause I think they look good and also did the lugs. Pay no mind to the huge gap above the front tire, I have the other side of the car jacked up while I do those two wheels.

EDIT: Also, 2 cans will do 4 wheels for those wondering how many to get.

Khalis 06-26-2012 10:53 PM

Do I spy another simple DIY?:D looks great!

indeed super simple to do!!

Starscream15 06-26-2012 11:05 PM

Very simple and inexpensive mod! I really like the stock wheels but just didn't like the silver.

I think I'll be doing the Silver Dash pieces in Black next. It looks good in OP's!

Double4Free 06-27-2012 10:54 AM

Black with red pinstripe on asphalt mmhmmmm :D

kidgogeta 06-28-2012 12:04 PM

how easy is it remove the scion symbols and reinstall them?

very easy!

choose a very hot day to do it. if not, you'll need a hair dryer to heat up the emblems

then a small plastic pry tool and dental floss.

it's pretty straight forward.

you'll also need new 3M double sided tape to re install them again

roguetadhg 06-28-2012 08:53 PM

I like the wheels.

kappaknight 06-28-2012 11:56 PM

I haven't used this before... does it come off if you wash it relatively hard with a brush, etc?

no problems with high pressure washers.

not so sure though is you scrub or brush it hard. it might peel if you do it too hard!

jimmillion 06-29-2012 01:07 AM

I like the idea of plasti dip, but I'm sure a layer of clear coat on top of that would make it look less DIY. Especially the rims. Damn i want a car to play with....
