Just got my VIN
 

Hi everyone,

I placed an order for an FR-S on June 14th and I just received my VIN today. and I was told the car is still in Japan... any ideas on what that translates to in terms of possible delivery ETA? I'm thinking 2 months at this rate.. anyone know better?

How on earth did you get your VIN so fast? I ordered June 1st and no VIN yet. Which dealer did you order from?

I ordered mine on June 20, have not received a VIN yet but was told that all orders go in on Monday's and that i will get a VIN this week. The dealership says the car will be here (Edmonton,AB) in 5 weeks from Japan. I am very doubtful that the car will make it here by then but the dealership is very confident that it will. *Fingers crossed*

Ordered from Woodbine Toyota. I've been trying to check in often.. not sure if that has something to do with it. Also, the colour matters too... For whats its worth I've ordered a Firestorm 6MT.

Just FYI, I put my order on a Raven 6spd on June 18th (Yorkdale Scion in Toronto), on June 19th I got an email from their people with an image attached from their order status system (some inventory control web page on the toyota secure portal site) that showed the car was at the port in Vancouver and that included a VIN on it and a bunch of other misc information.

They seemed to think car would be in the GTA about two weeks from then (so, perhaps late this week, early next). We'll see what actually happens.

If my experience is any indication, 2 months sounds right-ish. I ordered on April 17th, got my VIN on may 12th, the car arrived in port last week of May, left there who knows when, and has been sitting in a lot not too far from my dealer for over a week now awaiting a truck ride to them. Eff! I hope things go more smoothly for you. On the bright side, you got your VIN in half the time it took to get mine, and I had a 9 day rail strike to suck up as well.

I ordered same day same dealership in late afternoon. Got my VIN June 21, also showing vehicle at port of entry.

When my vehicle was at port of entry, it was another 3 weeks before I got it, since they had to reroute trains due to the strike

Hopefully I won't have to wait 3 weeks now that the strike's over! I'm pining for the car every day, lol!

It seems like there's no discernible pattern between order date, receving the VIN, and delivery dates.. :S ... this is contradictory to what all the dealers are saying.. if there indeed is a single queue this should not be the case.

There is no real system, it all comes down to the specific dealer.

One thing I was told a few times is that cars are allocated to the dealer based on sold units. Get 2, sell the 2, then get a few more. If they get 2 and only sell 1, they may only get 1 on the next batch. I don't think that it affects once you get your VIN, at that point it is already allocated to the dealer, but they may just ship someone else's car before yours if that dealer is not moving units.

Definitely not a single queue system.

I emailed the guy over there, Ramil, and he sent me a screenshot of their inventory control system showing my car in transit by rail with an ETA of July 6th. Not sure if you have got this but perhaps worth inquiring...though, prob safe to assume it's part of the same batch.

I saw the same screen a week before delivery which showed my car and another guy's FR-S were both "on rail to Toronto" . Mine was the only one that showed up all week, not sure if his car even showed up.

That's bizarre :-/

Yeah dude these next two weeks will be tough!! I am going on a road trip this weekend and it would have been great to have the FR-S for sure :-/

Put my deposit down on June 14th, and I'm picking it up July 3rd! Can't wait! 6MT Whiteout!

Doh! Turns out my car was part of the same batch as yours! Got a call from my sales early Saturday morning that car is here (he doesn't work Fridays), but now I can't pick it up until next Saturday since I booked a trip out of town this week. FML.

My dealer at scion downtown told me they had it on their lot and gave me the vin number on friday...not sure how much longer it will be. Fingers crossed.

Went for a bit of a drive today through High Park then out west to Sherway Gardens to get 'er up to highway speed...then took it easy coming back via The Queensway...real fun and easy to drive...it's tough keeping it under 4k RPMs during break-in though, this car really wants you to give 'er!

I hear ya dude.. the break-in is gonna be torture for me because I wanna park it in the winter and bring out my Focus (aka Fofo :P) as the winter driver. I'm thinking I may take a couple road trips to Ottawa/Montreal, or visit my cousin in Baltimore and get it over with in a week and a half or so. I'll make sure I vary the RPMs and speed as I go.. I wonder if that's a good way to go about it.

Yeah I'm thinking about heading up to my property in Merrickville (about an hour south of Ottawa) but will take either the #7 or the #2 instead of the 401, I think it will be more fun and better for breaking in.

That's very true.. it's a much more scenic route and serves the purpose well. Plus it will give me a better chance to practice my manual driving techniques after a 2 year hiatus. ;)

Hope that's true. I had some trouble with a friend's 350z a few months ago.. She probably still hasn't completely forgiven me to launching her car a couple times. :P
