More money than skill... or brains for that matter

Not sure if this was posted anywhere else, but here's a guy attempting to drift his BMW 335... resulting in this:

A prime example of money doesn't buy skill, or brains.

A-Holes like this are the reason there has to be so much police presence on Mulholland. During the summer its great to see all of the beautiful cars drive up and down this highway. Then you have the douches who take it to far. Tons of videos of people bikes and cars eating shit on this left hander.

joe strummer 11-20-2015 06:24 AM

Truly impressive how quickly that bystander ran over to check to see if anyone else was in the vehicle.

Teseo 11-20-2015 08:46 AM

Shit like that make me proud of be poor and skillfull

He went to turn off the ignition, as the driver really wanted us to know he was OK.

soulreapersteve 11-20-2015 09:03 AM

Typical BMW driver, nothing to see here.

Just kidding, of course.

So that's not Chris Harris?

DarkSunrise 11-20-2015 09:18 AM

Ouch. You can hear him lift as he's feeding in opposite lock. Rear snapped the other way and it was over.

He was driving like an idiot on the street, but I feel bad for the driver - does his insurance claim get denied when they see this video? Or does this still qualify as an "accident"?

He was definitely being an ass on the road by crossing DYLs and attempting to drift, but it would kind of qualify as an accident since no one ever flips their cars on purpose unless they're trying to partake in insurance fraud.

More than likely, his insurance, assuming they do find out about the video, will not only deny him coverage, but drop him altogether.

I have absolutely no sympathy for this guy. After all, he did say he's okay.

Well on that particular road there is a clearing (dirt lot) where lot of people hang out or take pics of cars or motorcycles.

I have zero doubt he felt he was just as skillful.
He was wrong.
You could be as well.

The moral of the story is? Curvy roads don't care if you drive a BMW 335 or a Miata, it'll indiscriminately bite your ass anytime it wants.

So an old 335 means you have money? :D
Dude just can't drive.

What always amazes me about this video is how quickly the car's safety system knew shit was going wrong and deployed the side-curtain airbag. Doesn't look like he had actually hit the rocks yet, and possibly saved the driver's life.

Which is worse? The bad BMW driver or this guy that just stare @ 00:29 lol..

What's stupid about that driver is in the first 5 seconds of that video, he watches his buddy in front nearly understeer into a ditch. But neither of them even think to slow down. If he had just heeded that warning sign and backed off, he probably wouldn't have made the same mistake and understeered his own car off that cliff.

bcj 11-20-2015 12:55 PM

You can see where skid marks go all squirrelly.
There's a slight rise in the roadbed where they start going the other way.
I didn't try to drift it. I've seen too many of the videos beforehand.

Back on 101 south, I turned off on Mulholland Hwy. It lives up to the hype. There's graval falling off the cuts into the road to look out for.
Saw some people shoveling coal into garbage cans from an open seam alongside the road. Black gold, Texas tea & etc.
Took a picture of "The" corner on Mulholland where everyone biffs it into the wall trying to show off.

DAMMIT PEOPLE! Stay in you damn lane, and never put your foot down or apex too early on a blind corner! Idiot slingshoted himself right off the road by wrongly assuming the corner only had a single apex. Simply wait to apex until you can see your exit, it isn't rocket science!!!

Eh, I loved the look and performance of the E92 M3 and the V10 M5 and M6 of that generation as well. It was when BMW downsized their engines that I lost faith in them. I'm sure there were good reasons for it but I'm still not fond of the new M cars.

That being said, this video was hilarious, though it could have been worse.

These accidents would have been fatalities if the cars were 20 years older.

Save it for the track.

Absolutely. Agree 100%.

My buddies and I are into old Fiats. I couldn't even open the doors on my Fiat Spider when it was up on jack stands for wheel finishing. Safety has come so far in the last forty years. Up from zero basically. And as much as I enjoy the feel of my rear tires breaking loose in roundabouts-I'm under no illusions-I can't even drive a perfect Forza lap without hitting a wall. :(

I am absolutely in awe of both that driver and his car. :)

Somehow ego and ability to drive rarely meet in the middle.
Physics has a way of slapping the un-educated squarely in the nuts.
