tonight i stopped into the mostly empty home depot to pick up some stuff for diy centercaps and when i came out a nice second gen forester parked right behind me.

If you stop to talk to every Subaru owner that parks near you you many never get much done. Although I suppose it could be worse and you could have a FRS and stop to talk to all the Toyota drivers.

But wait, we're Scion though. Wouldn't it be easier to talk to all the Scion drivers?

On second thought, maybe that's a bad idea...

I am sure the other 5 or 6 Scion drivers in my city are very nice.

The ones around my area are douches. (Generally speaking.)

I know 1 other Scion owner (a Tc) in my city and that is a very nice lesbian couple.

most of the subie owners around me are of the slighty outdoorsy slightly hippie/yuppie set (how stereotypical!) with new base model outbacks and foresters, but this was the first tastefully modded interesting subaru ive come across here so far.

Ever drive one? They are actually really sweet even if FWD. They get a bad rap because of the whole Scion bias but in reality there isn't much like them out there. I actually went into the dealership to look at the Tc when I almost tripped over my car sitting in the showroom in all it's blazing orange glory and was immediately smitten. Unlike about 98% of this forum I did not lust after an FRS but hardly remembered they existed (had never even seen one in the wild before I bought it) so it is because of the Tc I even am here now.
If I ever decided that I needed more room I could very well swing over to the Tc since I have zero issue with Scion.

To be honest, same here. Initially did not care much for Scion until they introduced the FR-S. Actually, the thought popped up that if I were to somehow lose my daily (a Corolla), I'd either pick up a first-gen Scion xB or any 2ZZ Toyota XRS.

Not really a grammar error as much grammar corundum as legally only one technically owns it. I did struggle with the wording and then just said "fuck it they can take it or leave it".

I don't care if it's a honda, scion, or w/e. Still too boxy for me, though 2nd gen looks much better than first imo.

If I do go practical, it might be a hot hatch. Speed3 or focus RS? :iono:

Drive them. For me, the current fleet of Mazdas are the most uncomfortable, awkward pieces of shit I've rented, and every time I get stuck with one I can't wait to get out of it. When I rent a Focus it's more comfortable. For me, the power and driving feel of a car is only one part of the equation. I also want the driving space to be designed with the driver in mind and not just "where can we fit this feature" and "it's okay if the driver's position is awkward if it gets us past the crash tests" and "hey let's add some useless bling to make this thing seem more expensive."

It's one of the things I love about my old Cherokee. When people first get into an XJ, it feels cramped. But if you're the driver, you quickly realize that every control is within arm's length and the sight lines are nearly perfect. There's also no chrome bullshit in the cabin to catch overhead sunlight and blind you. As a result there's less distraction and less fatigue.

I think the BRZ's cockpit is almost as well designed as my XJ. Most cars seem to give no thought to the species of creature that will be driving it.

Never driven a Focus but the Mazda 3 is an utter travesty.

im pretty amazed at the brz cockpit layout as well - you can reach the volume control without your right hand even leaving the steering wheel, the headrest is the first one ive ever encountered that actually serves to reat your head in a natural driving position, the gearshift is literally a 1 foot reach from the steerling wheel, the seats perfectly bolster you in tight turns but are contoured enough to be comfortable for long drives, and so forth.

I agree. The only reason I say it's almost as well designed as my Jeep is that the steering wheel doesn't telescope out far enough. When I sit in the Jeep, the wheel is in exactly the perfect position for me to have my hands on it with my arms in a completely relaxed position. With the BRZ, it seems that the wheel is always a couple of inches away from a relaxed position. It's not a problem when putting it through the paces, but in everyday driving it's always just a slight disappointment.

But not as big a disappointment as a Mazda, which always has me tied up in knots when I give it back.

Recently I drove one of those Kia Ratmobiles, and I thought I would hate it. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and how zippy it was. It was underpowered, but I didn't have an urge to kill any automotive engineers when I reached my hotel.

Subaru has 2 very different drivers: NA drivers and Turbo drivers. For the most part they're all pretty nice, but the NA drivers are mostly old people and lesbians. The Turbo drivers are guys in their 20s.

You didn't miss much by not talking. They would probably just be hating on your BRZ because it's not AWD!!! :D

I find BRZ/FRS owners to be cool people around my area. I cant' say the same thing about STI/WRX owners.

Is your BRZ turbo'd? If not, which are you - old or lesbian? Or both? :lol:

Back to OP - I will commonly park next to another Subaru if given a choice in a lot full of cars. I typically park away from the close spots, so you find more enthusiast parking at the fringes of the lot.

I went from a 98 Impreza to a 02 WRX to an 08 STI to a 14 BRZ and I'm a dude. So guess that means I had a brief time where I was a guy in his 20s, but I'm back to old man status :P

I had a 2005 TC and I loved it, its what made me confident about the FRS/Scion purchase. The thing with the Tc was that I always felt like I was driving something sportier than others could see: it was fun to drive, good handling, peppy engine, decent gear box, super flexible interior (could carry anything) and at the end of the day you have something predictable and as easy to source parts for as a camry.

I could easily have moved to another TC when my old one died, but test driving the BRZ convinced me, although I ended up getting an FRS.

Back in 09-12 when I had my 06 wrx subies were still owned by better people for the most part, I am sure it was even better in 04-08 but for the most part subies were still to expensive for the young **** heads. Now days I know one 20'year old driving an 05 sti paying 750 a month payment and sticking the stupidest sexual reference stickers all over his car "just the tip" above exhaust and a bunch of hand and cat symbols on his scoop for "fuck her right in the p*ssy" it's pretty sad.

I have a tendency to think that everyone else I meet driving interesting cars is as interested in cars as I am... Just today I was walking past a car park when I see a red GT86 (rare but not as rare as a BRZ in the UK) so I walk over to the owner and strike up a conversation about his car. He tells me that he loves it and is really enjoying it. I tell him I have BRZ, he looks at me really puzzled then goes on and tells me that he's seen a Subaru version of his car in the same car park, Doh!

There is a guy by my parents house with an STI that has a large sticker (almost entire rear corner of bumper) near his exhaust that says, "hondas are like tampons, every p*ssy has one." I don't even know where to start with this guy, other than he exemplifies every wrx/sti owner i see. All he needs is some neon wayfarers, 5 pine tree air fresheners, and a monster/dc hat to fully fit the mold.

The younger they are the emptier their heads are, especially about sex, the thing they know least about. There's an idiot teenager on the web who thinks he's an automotive writer who will waste 10 minutes of your time on "the differences between an FRS and a BRZ" and do nothing but vaporize over the headlight bezel. Poor thing had to sell his 86-type and now drives a Mini Cooper. The forum sharks we know crucified him for driving a car that's "even gayer" than the one he sold. I don't know why my BRZ with 6 forward should be anything but male, but let's give it a rest!
