Short driver and FRS?

Hey everyone, looking for some input before I go to the dealers.

But I'm 5'3 and was wondering if there's any short driver that drives the FRS and how they feel about it. I like it, but I wanted to get an opinion from someone who drove it longer then a few miles lol

Thanks!

As long as your the driver, you're ok. My 4'11" wife can drive mine, but she hates the passenger seat.

veronicagraff 10-23-2015 02:03 AM

I'm 5'10, I know that's not short, especially for a girl but my seat is usually all the way back and I still have bend in my leg when I drive, so I don't think you'll have problems there as the car is already super compact...and as for visibility you can always move your seat up vertically so I don't think you'll have issues there either considering the dash is fairly low as well. I actually think it's a car built for short people...the leg room isn't exactly ideal for me or my boyfriend who is about 6'1. Also this may help, but my mom's co-worker took it for a spin and he's about 5'2..he loved it and drives a Porsche comfortably so I would say you will be fine!

I'm 5'6" & it's completely fine. The drivers seat is height adjustable just as she ^ said. & the steering wheel is telescopic as well as height adjustable. Sitting in the passenger seat is the only time I feel quite low in the car.

weederr33 10-23-2015 02:54 AM

I'm 5'3 and I fit perfectly!

I'd say that if your feet reach the pedals and you can see over the dash ...... you're good to go .......

5'10'' and fine. I wonder how people taller make this work :/ long drives but shirt trips are no issues from what I've seen with friends.

I think you should be fine bruh.

soulreapersteve 10-23-2015 09:13 AM

I'm 5'5" (5'6" on my license) and no issues at all! Just got to adjust the height of the seat and the steering wheel, then viola!

Never really felt short before until I sat in the passenger's seat lol

NyC Zn6 10-23-2015 09:13 AM

hey I'm 5'6" and I fit in it perfect.

Tcoat 10-23-2015 09:42 AM

This is a world platform vehicle and as such it is well designed to meet the height requirements for the majority. Since the average world wide height for males is 5'8" and females is 5'4" (these numbers are often disputed but can't be far off) then there should be no issues for most people.

Bonburner 10-23-2015 09:45 AM

just test drive it, see how it feels after you tinker all the settings

Ammunition 10-23-2015 10:09 AM

I'm 5'3 - 4" and I am comfortable driving the car; it's something I worried about initially as well.

I do adjust the seat to be as tall as possible, and I pulled out the steering wheel a bit, but I think that is more of a personal comfort thing rather than due to my height specifically. I do keep the seat back a fair bit.

The only thing that I can't reach comfortably while driving is the foot rest, which isn't a big deal. Like others have said - go take one for a test drive, but make sure to take the time to adjust the seat et al before doing so, so you have an accurate idea of what you'd experience if you were driving your own vehicle.

GL!

ConceptX 10-23-2015 10:43 AM

As several others have said, I think you'll find that this car feels like it's made for you. My wife is 5'4" and she says the car fits her perfectly. The remarkable thing is that I'm 6'4" and say the same thing.

I personally like to drive fairly compact meaning I tend to like to be closer to the pedals (I'm 5'10) and I still have some space left to back the seat up, I assume for taller people it would just be to get used to a slightly more compact driving position.

Thank God, I mean Toyobaru for the 86. They design this car so that anyone loves driving can actually drive. I'm 5-2 and never once complain about the sitting position. Drove other cars like the '93 RX-7 and I'd say anyone under 5-4 won't be able to drive it. Not comfortably or without hugging the steering wheel because reaching the clutch can be a nightmare.

The lower the better because racecar

Lync 10-23-2015 11:55 AM

I'm 5'3 and feels fine. I probably have my seat pulled further up than most so its a little hard to get into the car if you don't feel like moving the seat back and forth all the time, but when you are in the car its perfect. Very easy to see over the dash.

Packofcrows 10-23-2015 12:00 PM

5'7 or 5'8 and fat. Fit fine, even in rear but for no more than a 40min drive. Takes getting used to just flopping into driver seat.

OH DONT FORGET! Driver side has the extra handle to move seat up!

bhmax 10-23-2015 12:10 PM

5'6" with 30" inseam. First time I drove one I was amazed at how well I seemed to fit compared to my Evo. After owning it a couple months now I'm surprised the seat doesn't go up higher. I keep it at full height. It's about where I'd want it, but I would have guessed someone shorter would want it even higher. But I'm coming from Evo and WRX where you're a bit higher anyway, so I'm used to that.

MisterSheep 10-23-2015 12:28 PM

I'm 6foot and my gf is 5'1 we both drive this car very comfortably.

MokSpeed 10-23-2015 12:47 PM

I've had no problems with comfort in this car. My only advice would be to take your wallet out of your back pocket if you're going on a road trip. Then again this applies to almost every car I've driven on a road trip with.

I'm the same height as you.....buy that car now! ;)

Tcoat 10-23-2015 01:40 PM

Holy crap! reading through this I feel like a giant and I am only 5' 10"! I need to hang with this crowd just to feel tall for the first time ever.

Who8myrice 10-23-2015 08:11 PM

I am 5ft 9. Asian.
Having long back and short arm is the worst part about me in any car.
Order to heel toe, I need to move the seat back.
But my arm is little too far from the shifter.
I can never find perfect position.

xFury 10-25-2015 03:46 AM

Thanks for the input everyone! After driving it for the 2nd day, I'm getting more comfy with it, does fit nice, just gotta get used to getting out and in, sometimes I had to move the seat back lol

You are not alone. Someplace on here there is a whole thread dedicated completely to getting in and out of the car.
I personally have no issues even though mine is lowered and I am old.

Man I envy you lol. I always kick the front inner door panel, And I have to wipe it down after getting out lol.

Now i just gotta keep practice with this manual, since it's my first.

mikool 10-25-2015 01:46 PM

I have perfected to in and out technique with no hands, I am about 5'5 and rather short legs and tall torso so I have the seat pretty far up where I can comfortably place my foot on the resting pedal. With that said I have the seat reclined a bit more since I am further up due to short legs, and the seat height is fairly low considering my torso is pretty lengthy. It took a long time to find my perfect seating adjustments so all you need to do is fiddle around with it. You will notice what you need to change once you go on longer trips.

Rifle 10-25-2015 02:13 PM

The car fits a wide variety of people. Best way to tell is to sit in it. I'm a big guy, long torso, short legs. I'm 6 ft, 300 lbs (big guy) , 28 inseam and I fit no problem, then the girl is 5'4, short legs, average build, and she fits and reaches no problem.

BD7 10-26-2015 03:53 PM

This car fits well for Asian, average height 5'7". A lot of my friends are under 5'.

Remember to push back the seat when in/out.

Timmy_Jones 10-27-2015 02:22 PM

I am 5'2" and weight 329lbz, but I fit fine.

Datcrazyeric 10-27-2015 03:18 PM

Sold a FR-S to a lady who was 4'8 and she had no problems driving

chaoskaze 10-27-2015 03:37 PM

FRS is design for short/small frame drivers.............. i mean it's from japan. xD (my shoulder is actually too wide for stock chair)

SisterBlue22 10-27-2015 05:23 PM

I'm 5'1" and I'm comfortable driving mine. In fact, it's the most comfortable driving position of any vehicle I've ever owned.

This thread is just the OP's way of cunningly seeing whether his car is tasteful or not.http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1450979007

Yep. Me too. I get so sick of seeing that little dirt swipe near the speaker. I've finally trained myself to get out a little differently, and have learned to avoid kicking the door accidentally. You'll get it. I DO move the seat back fully now every time I get out of the car. Makes getting in easier, too. I'm 5' 7".. used to be 5' 8". Sigh. My wife is 5' even, and she can drive the car no problem. Hates to be a passenger in it, though.
