Another White 86...

Hi guys

I have been waiting patiently for a year for this car and I have been stalking this forum for awhile now :bonk:. On Wednesday I picked up my 2014 2.0 High Manual 86. Purchased her 2nd hand with just over 19000ks on the clock from Toyota Kingsmead. I praise them for their excellent service! :happyanim:

http://i1360.photobucket.com/albums/...psv6f8ztm5.jpg

So far I have been loving every moment of her so far. She is mighty around the corners even tho it's slightly under powered. Honestly I don't think she will be stock for long :D .

There are two things I cannot stand in the car, I have already fixed one issue... that is the interior light of the car. Swopped it out for a LED one and it looks so much better!

http://i1360.photobucket.com/albums/...psb3ibjmhm.jpg

http://i1360.photobucket.com/albums/...psp9huy1o3.jpg

The other is the boot spoiler. Really can't stand the 2014 model boot spoiler! Will be swopping it out with the TRD one.

Looking forward to meeting the KZN 86/BRZ club. Unfortunately I don't have facebook to keep up with the meet and greats. Is there any other form of communication?

Fish Eagle 10-18-2015 02:50 AM

Congrats and enjoy!! :)

Dammod 10-18-2015 04:10 AM

Congrats and welcome!

Burns 10-18-2015 04:29 AM

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy every minute in your new 86.

LostSalad 10-18-2015 05:00 AM

Congrats! I actually turned the interior light off permanently. When I get home at night and turn the car off, the light automatically comes on, and this effectively blinds me to what's going on outside. With the crime in this country... eish. Jy wil die skelms sien kom. So I turn it off and stay in the darkness like a night stalker :D

If you do swap for the TRD spoiler... please post prices and details :P

So sad that anything TRD is so crazy expensive.

I'm not sure exactly which spoiler you're looking for?
If you can post a pic, we might be able to suggest a much cheaper alternative...

Congrads @riri86 Your interior lighting looks neat!

All the best with your future mods!

Here is a picture of the one i'm looking for, I'm a bit scared to get one off ebay incase there are gaps when fitting. Only thing is the current spoiler is bolted on:mad0260: guess I have to fill the holes and spray the boot...

:laughabove: I know what you mean. Its really bright and in your face, would be nice if the car came with footwell lights. I have been on a LED craze this weekend! Swopped out number plate and reverse lights to LED.

Still can't decide what to do with fogs, LED or HID's

That's the same style as mine which I got from Jon Motoring in the USA by mail order. http://www.jonmotoring.com/spoiler/
I'm very happy with the fit and finish. It comes in black, so you'd need to paint it if desired.

Two years ago it cost R1479 including freight, duties, vat, etc.

Picked up the car Wednesday and on Saturday I was already on the track. Took part at Roy Hesketh track day that was held by DY Performance. Certainly something different as this was the first time I took part in a circuit race.

The car performed flawlessly, breaks will have to be upgraded soon tho! It's rather sad that KZN lacks track venues :sigh: . I will be looking forward to the next one. Just need to swop out my steering wheel. Feels outta place no matter what I do, think its my height!

I had this one installed when I got my direct from the dealer. I did get it in 2013 though. Think it finishes the boot off nicely.

:laughabove: I never come across that! Geez that corner reminds me of the follow through on the top gear track. Looks like it wasn't an event cause there was no marshals. Did you just go there for a few laps or was it a track day?

Best boot spoiler in my opinion, it's subtle!

It was in January and we were on holiday in KZN for a few days.
I got hold of Mike Fogg and got his permission to play a bit on the track.

No marshals, no nothing - like nada!!
I was on brand new road tyres, and had a great reluctance to scrub them, so I took it very easy.
My best lap was 1m19-something and it's unlikely I'll get there again, so that will probably stand as my very unexciting PB for a long time. :)
Oh, did I say that my gorgeous white haired wife was watching me with an eagle eye too - wha-ha-ha!!
It was a good time for a bit of restraint.

Dodged a duiker on my first lap. :confused0068: Then it scarpered off into the bush.

Must admit that I found the 30 year old trees growing at the edge of the track a bit... well, distracting (read scary) :eyebulge:

Here's another view of the brave pedestrian - @ 0m42

Yeah the track is a bit too open, but it's the only track we got!

I need to get Mike Fogg so I can mess around during my free time, what app did you use for your lap times?

Your lap time is very good, a friends Subaru Forester did around 1.23, he used the raceChrono app for Android. Picks up the track and you just press start. Sadly it wasn't available on IOS.

Like the line you took on the long right hander!

FT_86_SM_GP 10-23-2015 08:08 AM

@riri86 have you not tried Dezzi Racetrack? Would be nice to see some footage from that track,

Or do they only use Dezzi for Drag racing and drifting ?
(Have not seen a track video on the internet/youtube as yet)

I didn't have anything that day at Hesketh, but I normally use TrackAddict for the data log, and a cheapie Russian camera for the video. Then I merge the video and data log using RaceRender.

I have done drifting at Dezzi on the easy course with a 200sx. The track is much bigger now. Here is a nice video for you to have a look.

Thats not me BTW. Dezzi is used as a track as well. It's better to join a club tho like IBV or BMW club, they go often. I will join them next year.

Been a while since I have been on the forum, guess I'm enjoying my 86 a bit too much! :burnrubber:

Well so far so good, my brakes are on their way out so I have been reading the brakes thread we have. Still haven't made up my mind yet with what I want.

Did my first performance upgrade if you can call it that

Swopped out my stock air filter.

http://i1360.photobucket.com/albums/...pskqawjdsz.jpg

For a JR performance air filter.

http://i1360.photobucket.com/albums/...psvqt7iknm.jpg

Honestly I never do too much research into the brand. I know K&N is the best but the opportunity was there so I just took it
The guys with the C63 locally swear by this filter. Would be nice to compare is to the K&N filter.

After the installation that took less than 2 minutes I ever notice much difference, tone and performance is the same.

Cheers guys!

Nice - stuck some Valenti lights on mine and I love them! Just makes that back end look so good.

Tell me - how was the process/importing/waiting time and did you get nailed for taxes etc?

Yeah I got nailed for Taxes, around 2k... thats about 20% of the invoice.

Parts were ordered first week of Nov, received them on the 20th. They provide tracking, but once its in SA you are in the blind.

Was rather easy to deal with the guys, emailed them the list of what I wanted, they worked out the shipping cost and told me. Sent me an invoice via PayPal and sorted. If you go through their website and check out you will probably have a heart attack looking at the shipping. That's why best to email. They use USPS

Plus the give 3% off your next purchase.

Yep, there are many online vendors especially in the US who really get their shipping to SA calc very wrong.
I've seen it where the shipping was 5x the cost of the item - LOL.

What @riri86 said is right - email them and let them give you a shipping quote.

86 South Africa 11-26-2015 01:43 AM

@riri86 @Fisheagle

Thanks... I've also seen lots of nice bits I want. Taking my time and researching the hell out of everything, partly because I don't want to spend money on things I don't really need/want and partly because I plan on keeping my car for a long time, so would rather wait a wee bit longer and spend a little more for quality parts than rush into buying stuff.

Got my lights from RMS btw, so no hassles with importing etc.
Also imported something else recently (a running backpack) and got nailed with whar***e - was expecting the import duty and VAT, but what the hell is that?! (just another damn tax!)

Will be posting updates when I eventually get my brake upgrades :)
